At Umbiance, we're developing dancers and performers—but we're also creating space for young people to connect, communicate, encourage one another and grow together.

❤️🖤💛 FAITH IN MOTION FRIDAY

Sometimes the ministry isn’t in the choreography.
Sometimes…it’s in the EMBRACE. ❤️
This testimony stopped us for a moment.
A mother finally had the opportunity to watch her daughter, Tru, perform in The WiZ-Ard. She had worried about not being there in person and wondered whether her absence had been felt.
Then she watched the recording.
She heard someone cheering, “Go Tru!”
She saw the love surrounding her daughter.
And then she saw the embrace between Tru and Ms. Kay—a moment neither of them even knew had been captured. 🥹❤️
THAT is Faith in Motion.
Because pouring into a child goes far beyond teaching choreography.
It’s making sure she knows she is seen.
That she is supported.
That she is encouraged.
That she belongs.
And while we love watching our students develop as performers, there is something even more meaningful about watching them grow into the people they are becoming.
Arielle said it best:
“Umbiance has made Tru what she is as a dancer and I love watching my baby grow.” 😍

Tru, KEEP GROWING. KEEP DANCING. KEEP BECOMING. 💃🏽

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LOOK BACK TO SEE HOW FAR YOU’VE COME.

Dancers spend a lot of time looking ahead.
The next step.
The next turn.
The next level.
The next audition.
The next thing they haven't mastered… yet.
But every now and then, it’s important to look back.
Remember when that combination felt impossible?
Remember when you were afraid to dance in front of others?
Remember when you couldn't quite get that turn, leap, rhythm or technique?
And look at you now. 💃🏽
Growth doesn't always announce itself.
Sometimes it happens quietly—one class, one correction, one rehearsal, one eight count at a time.
So today, don't only focus on how far you still want to go.
Take a moment and honor how far you've already come.
Then keep going. ❤️

WEDNESDAY

“CORRECTION” ISN’T CRITICISM.

In dance, hearing “Again!” doesn't mean you failed.
It means your instructor sees what you CAN do—and is helping you get there. 💃🏽
Point the foot.
Straighten the knee.
Spot the turn.
Listen to the music.
Again.
Again.
One more time.
Every correction teaches something bigger than the movement itself:
How to listen without becoming defensive.
How to adjust.
How to remain teachable.
How to keep working when you don't get it the first time.
Those are skills our dancers can carry far beyond the studio.
Because in dance—and in LIFE—growth requires the willingness to be corrected.
So the next time you hear an instructor say “Again!”…

Dance as an expression of worship didn't begin with the modern church.
Before there were praise-dance teams…
Before matching garments…
Before choreographed worship presentations…
there was Miriam.
There was David.
There were the Psalms.
Scripture records people expressing praise, thanksgiving and celebration through MOVEMENT

Today's Liturgical Dance looks different from dance in biblical times, but the idea behind it reaches back thousands of years:
Sometimes worship isn't only something we SAY or SING.

Sometimes the body has something to say, too.
At Umbiance, students aren't simply learning choreography. They're learning the history, meaning and purpose behind the movement.

DON’T DESPISE THE BEGINNING.
Every dancer you admire was once a beginner.
There was a first class.
A first correction.
A first time forgetting the choreography.
A first fall.
A first “I can’t do it.”
And then came another try.
And another.
Until “I can’t” became “WATCH ME.” 💃🏽🔥
That's what training does.
It doesn't demand that you walk through the door already great. It asks that you walk through the door willing to learn.
Parents, give those gifts time to develop.
Dancers, give yourselves permission to grow.
Don't compare your beginning to somebody else's becoming.
Show up.
Take the correction.
Do the work.
Try again.
Because the dancer you're becoming is being built in the moments when nobody is applauding

Professional. Pristine. Powerful.

Teacher. Choreographer. Leader. Daughter. And, without question, a minister through dance. 💃🏽
You don't just watch Kyla dance.

You FEEL her.
You feel her heart.
You feel her movement.
You feel her passion.

She has a way of saying with her body what the rest of us can sense in our spirit—but sometimes can't find the words to express.
And that kind of artistry doesn't happen overnight.
Kyla has been a student of dance for much of her life…and it SHOWS.
The technique shows.
The discipline shows.
The years of training show.

But perhaps most beautifully—the LOVE for the art still shows.
And THAT is something we want every little girl watching to see.
Baby girl, the dancer you admire today was once a little girl learning her first steps, too. 🩰
She had to learn.
She had to practice.
She had to be corrected.
She had to keep showing up.

So when you see someone like Kyla commanding a stage, don't only see the finished performance. See what's possible when a gift is discovered early, nurtured intentionally, trained consistently, and given room to GROW.
And parents, sometimes that little girl dancing through your living room isn't just dancing. 👀
Pay attention to the gift.

Umbiance was in the building TODAY! ❤️🖤💛
Our dancers had the opportunity to take the stage at Arts Alive! at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, sharing their gifts, their training, and their love for the performing arts.
There’s nothing quite like seeing our students take what they’ve worked on inside the studio and bring it to the STAGE! 💃🏽✨

We are so proud of every dancer who showed up, performed, and represented Umbiance today.
