After reflecting on the first year of business, we asked families enrolled to share their experiences at Serenity and below are just a few responses:
"We’ve been with Serenity Swimming since the very beginning, and it’s been an incredible journey. Originally, our goal was simply to get our son, Mikale, comfortable enough with the water to enjoy playing at the pool. At first, it was a real struggle just to get him to dip his toes in. Now, he moves comfortably and is having so much fun in the water. Cidney has completely exceeded our expectations. Her guidance every step of the way is the main reason Mikale has made such amazing progress. Serenity Swimming has had a massive impact on teaching our child how to tackle hard tasks and overcome adversity."
"My daughter Aurora is 9 years old and has autism, ADHD, and anxiety. We have tried swim lessons since she was 6 months old with little success. Getting through a traditional swim lesson has always been hard for her with the noise, the transitions, the coordination of moving her arms and legs together, and would end in frustration and sometimes leaving the lesson early.
Seven months ago, she still couldn't swim. Last week, she swam the full length of the pool.
We found Serenity Swimming through a LISS grant for children with autism. Our goal was simple and urgent: water safety. Autistic children face a much higher risk of drowning, and we needed Aurora to be safe as she gets older and spends time near water with activities like Girl Scouts.
Aurora’s instructor, Cidney, has been extraordinary. She reads Aurora intuitively, knowing when to push and when to ease back, and that attunement has made all the difference. Aurora loves swimming now, she looks forward to going every week. After her sessions she comes home grounded and calm in a way we've never seen after anything else.
Cidney with Serenity Swimming gave our daughter safety, confidence, and joy. Thank you Serenity Swimming!"
"We have been with Serenity for almost a year now and have loved our experience. Ms. Lauren has done an amazing job with our son, Bennett. She has always been patient with him when he is feeling shy and does a great job balancing between gently pushing him to try new things but never forcing him to do something he doesn’t want to do. Lauren has built Bennett’s confidence in the water by introducing fun ways for him to practice going under water, getting his face wet, and floating on his back (all things that used to make him uncomfortable). Serenity provides plenty of fun toys and equipment for their lessons which helps the students feel comfortable and safe. The facility itself provides everything we need; plenty of seating to view the lessons, changing rooms with changing tables, bathrooms and showers, and even books and toys to keep my younger son entertained while his big brother is swimming. Jenni (the owner) is also very helpful with proving assistance and does a great job communicating when/if a lesson needs to be rescheduled. Overall we have had a great experience at Serenity and can’t wait to watch our son Bennett continue to grow into a skilled and confident swimmer."
"My 5 year old son started at Serenity Swimming almost a year ago. Watching his progress has been incredible! We are so grateful to Jenni, Lauren, and the team!
My son previously had swim lessons at another swim school in Frederick. We found that the group lessons were not working out for him. He was tired of constantly being splashed by the other children and he got very little actual teacher time during the lesson. He kept repeating the same level class because he hadn't mastered one of the several skills needed to move up. After a short break from swimming we started lessons at Serenity with Lauren.
The combination of one-on-one lessons and Lauren's skills as an instructor have been a game changer for him. Every lesson meets him where he is, both emotionally and as a swimmer, to help him improve while also building his comfort in the water. While all of his lessons have been with Lauren, we've gotten to know Jenni and other instructors during our time there. Together they have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all. In addition, the facility is always clean and well cared for. We appreciate the attention to detail throughout, especially the swimming related children's books to read while we wait for our lesson.
I was recently chatting with another parent about the great progress our children were making at Serenity. We both wished that we could find facilities for other children's athletic activities that were as well run as Serenity Swimming!"
"Hello Team,
Happy Anniversary to Serenity Swimming!
My child and I both attend Serenity Swimming, and we absolutely love it. The instructors and staff are friendly, supportive, and genuinely invested in their students’ success. From the moment we joined, we felt welcomed and encouraged.
When I first joined, I was extremely afraid of water. I shared my concerns with Ms. Jenni, and she listened with patience and understanding, encouraging me and supporting me every step of the way. Her guidance and positive attitude helped me build confidence and trust in myself. Thanks to her support and the positive learning environment, I have overcome my fear of water and gained confidence in my swimming abilities.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing how much progress I have made. I can now float comfortably on my back, tread water with confidence, and continue improving my breaststroke technique. For someone who once feared being in the water, these accomplishments mean a great deal. Learning to swim has been both empowering and life-changing.
My child has also made tremendous progress. He recently moved from private lessons to the Pre-Swim Team, and he absolutely loves it. Ms. Lauren does a wonderful job challenging him while keeping swimming fun and engaging. He enjoys learning alongside his teammates, building new skills, and gaining confidence as part of a team environment. It has been amazing to watch his growth both as a swimmer and as a team member.
The facility is excellent. The pool is always clean, the water quality is great, and the changing rooms are convenient and well-maintained. The overall atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable, and family-friendly.
We also hosted my child’s birthday party at Serenity Swimming, and it was a wonderful experience. He had an amazing time swimming with his friends, and Cidney, the party host, did a fantastic job keeping the children engaged and entertained. They were especially attentive to children who were not confident swimmers, helping them feel safe, included, and comfortable throughout the event.
I highly recommend Serenity Swimming to both children and adults. Whether you are learning to swim for the first time, overcoming fears, or looking to improve your skills, this is a fantastic place to learn.
It has been a truly positive experience for our family, and we look forward to continuing our swimming journey here. Happy Anniversary to Serenity Swimming, and I wish the entire team continued success and growth in the years ahead."
Thank you to all of the families who continue to believe in us and here's to another year of swimming!
As we move into celebrating one year of operation, the three staff members who have been with Serenity Swimming since the beginning were asked to reflect on their experience and this is what they had to say;
Cidney- Senior Instructor/ Social Media Manager (new)/ Level 2 SW Certified
"Working at Serenity Swimming has become one of my favorite parts of the day. I look forward to my time teaching kids of all different abilities and being able to share my life long passion for swimming with my students. The company culture at Serenity Swimming is unlike any other position I have held in the past; it truly does feel like a big family. We are all involved in keeping things running smoothly throughout the day and supporting each other in any way we can. I have held my RBT certification for nearly 5 years now and getting to be able to better support kiddos with different needs in this setting has been immensely rewarding. I am beyond proud of Jenni and all that she has accomplished in bringing her vision to life and I look forward to the many years to come for us and our community."
Lauren- Aquatic Fitness Instructor/ Assistant Manager/ Level 2 SW Certified
"One year ago, I walked into Serenity Swimming for what I thought would be just another swim‑instructing job. Instead, I was welcomed into a swim facility that isn’t just here to teach individuals how to swim, but to help them stay safe, make smart choices in and around the water, and carry their confidence far beyond their lessons and into the world.
My name is Lauren, and over the past year I’ve had the joy of teaching 1:1 private lessons, leading our pre‑swim teams, and running our aquatic fitness classes. With my background in Exercise Science, I’ve been able to bring biomechanics, motor learning, injury prevention, and conditioning directly into the water, helping swimmers move efficiently, safely, and confidently.
As a graduate Exercise Science student, my favorite part of the job has become our aquatic fitness classes. I love bringing evidence‑based training principles into the pool and showing people just how powerful water can be for strength, mobility, and overall wellness.
Most of all, I love knowing that I get to teach individuals of all ages and abilities a fun, empowering, and truly lifesaving skill.
Here’s to year one — and many more to come!"
Sami- Senior Instructor
"I joined the Serenity Swimming family in August 2025 and immediately felt welcomed and valued. It had been 10 years since I had last taught swim lessons, and it felt wonderful to have swimming back in my life. Each week, I look forward to being in the pool and working with my swim students. I also enjoy seeing and collaborating with the other instructors as we support one another and help our students succeed.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my experience has been watching children develop their skills, gain confidence, and become safer in the water. Seeing their growth over time is incredibly fulfilling.
It has been a pleasure working for Jenni, an owner who genuinely cares about her employees' well-being and happiness. She has clearly poured her heart into Serenity Swimming and the Frederick community. Jenni cares not only about me as an employee but also as a person, and she has shown the same care and interest in my children.
Jenni has created a truly unique swim lesson environment. It is the first place where I have taught exclusively one-on-one lessons that focus on each child's individual growth and progress. Rather than simply checking off swim skills, we are continually building confidence, improving technique, and reinforcing water safety in a way that meets each child where they are.
I feel very fortunate to be part of the Serenity Swimming family and am excited to see what the future holds under Jenni's leadership."
HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF OPERATION
On Friday June 6, 2025 Serenity Swimming opened its doors to welcome families from all over the greater Frederick area and beyond looking to foster a positive relationship with the water in many different capacities.
Over the first year of operation Serenity Swimming has grown substantially, now employing 10 swim instructors and serving nearly 300 families, open 7 days a week for private lessons, group aquatic workouts and pre-swim team training. The staff employed at Serenity have diverse backgrounds including RBT certification and Exercise Science allowing them to understand and adapt to a multitude of swimmers needs including but not limited to; physical ailments, special needs, injuries and anxieties surrounding the water. In addition to complex and differing qualifications, all swim instructors employed at Serenity Swimming are American Red Cross lifeguard certified along with 3 instructors having earned Level 2 Adaptive Swim Whisperers Certifications through the Swim Angelfish Program.
Jenni Hoover (owner and water whisperer extraordinaire) has worked tirelessly to set Serenity Swimming apart from other swim schools. Part of her dream in opening a swim school was to share her passion for the sport with those around her and educate as many people as possible about the importance of water safety. Working a full schedule of her own private lessons has been an unwavering priority for Jenni to remain involved in her business and community which has promoted a positive staff morale. How often have you wished your boss knew what it was like to work in your shoes?; well Jenni does. In recognition of all of the hard work that has been put into making Serenity Swimming what it is, Jenni was awarded the title of SBA Baltimore District Office’s 2026 Woman Owned Small Business of the Year.
As we reflect on the past year of operation, we want to thank all of the families who have trusted us in being a part of their journey through swimming no matter how big or small. While it has been an incredible year for Serenity, we know this is just the beginning of the legacy we plan to leave in our community and we hope that if anyone has been considering taking the leap into lessons, they do it feet first into our pool.
