The Harvest Concept

The Harvest Concept Serving Franklin since 2016, The Harvest Concept blends Han Mu Do, Jiu Jitsu & personal training to build strength, discipline & confidence.

Rooted in tradition, we grow stronger together—body, mind & spirit. We focus on optimism, balance and harmony, building mental and physical strength through movement and practices, such as martial arts, yoga, and traditional archery. We know these skills improve agility, positivity, overall function and happiness. We set goals on what we want to achieve and focus on the areas we want to transform. Have fun and let go in the beauty of movement and breath and get that mind, body, spirit connection going. Since 2016, Harvest has been loved by the Downtown Franklin community, constantly evolving and continuing to bring award winning programs for all ages to experience. We love being a part of local festivals, parades, school programs, and events. Owners, Amber Joy + Justin Martin aren't natives to this state but have been a part of the downtown Franklin scene for over 20 years, with a reputation for genuinely taking care of others in the community.

The Harvest Concept, formerly Harvest Martial Arts, opened in 2016, and is long known for its specialty in teaching Han Mu Do, the traditional Korean art of self defense, and is the only Han Mu Do school in the state of Tennessee.

Harvest offers multiple classes starting at age 3+ in the Sprouts program, ages 6 to 13 in the Juniors Program, and Adult classes, ages 14+. There are moments as a parent and instructor that mean a little more.

Tying my son’s red belt on after testing was one of them.

I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow up in Han Mu Do and seeing his movement and understanding grow, his confidence grow, and the excitement he still feels when his hard work leads to progress. That red belt represents another step forward, but what matters most is the person being developed along the way.

Kids who grow up practicing martial arts gain so much more than techniques and belts. They learn how to work toward something that takes time. They learn to handle challenges, accept correction, overcome frustration, respect others, and keep going when things get difficult.

They become stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Working hard feels different when you’re surrounded by people working right beside you. 🥊🔥

That’s AIM Kickboxing at Harvest.

We hit the bags, push through challenging rounds, work our strength and conditioning, and encourage each other to keep going when the workout gets tough.

You don’t have to be the strongest.
You don’t have to be the fastest.
You don’t have to be “in shape” before you start.

You just have to be willing to work.

Consistency builds strength. Hard workouts build confidence. And a great group of people makes showing up a whole lot more fun.

Come sweat with us and see what AIM is all about.

🥊 Mondays & Wednesdays — 6:00 AM
🥊 Tuesdays & Thursdays — 9:00 AM
🥊 Saturdays — 8:00 AM

Show up. Work hard. Get stronger. Do it together. 💪

Self-defense is something we practice, not something we simply learn once. 🥋

At Harvest, Han Mu Do students work with training partners to develop practical self-defense skills through repetition, movement, and controlled resistance. We practice strikes, joint locks, escapes, throws, and other techniques while learning how to stay aware, think clearly, and respond under pressure.

Partner training is especially important because every person moves differently. It teaches timing, distance, balance, control, and the ability to adapt when a technique doesn’t go exactly as planned.

But the benefits go beyond learning how to protect yourself.

Every class builds confidence. Every challenge develops resilience. Every repetition adds another piece to a student’s understanding of the art.

We train together so that we can make each other better stronger bodies, calmer minds, and greater confidence in what we’re capable of.

That’s self-defense training at Harvest.

Learning to fall, safely, and get back up again is an important physical lesson but an equally as important philosophy lesson. We will have trial and tribulations but we have to be able to get to the other side. Preferably with a smile on our face. Kids martial arts classes at Harvest teach self defense but also how to be a good person.

Some days you feel unstoppable.

Some days you’re tired.
Some days you’re discouraged.
Some days life feels heavy.
Some days you’re full of energy.

You train anyway.

That’s what martial arts teaches us.

We don’t wait until we feel motivated. We don’t only show up when it’s easy. We build ourselves by showing up consistently through the good days and the difficult ones.

Every class. Every drill. Every round.

Little by little, those choices shape who we become.

Jiu Jitsu isn’t just about learning techniques. It’s about developing the discipline to keep moving forward, regardless of how you feel that day. That’s where resilience is built. That’s where confidence is earned.

The martial artist you want to become is created by the decision to keep showing up.

So train when you’re happy.
Train when you’re tired.
Train when you’re frustrated.
Train when you’re confident.

Just keep training.

We’ll see you on the mat. 🥋💪

One of the greatest joys of teaching martial arts is watching kids grow up.

We meet them when they’re young, full of energy, curiosity, and excitement. Then, year after year, we have the privilege of watching them become confident teenagers with character, purpose, and a growing sense of responsibility.

The teenage years are some of the most important years of a person’s life. Everyone needs a place where they feel accepted, challenged, and encouraged to become their best. At Harvest, we strive to be that place.

Our goal has never been simply to create black belts.

Our goal is to help develop young men and women who lead with integrity, serve others, work hard, and have the confidence to make a positive difference in the world.

The black belt is a milestone.

The leader they become is the true achievement.

These young people will become the leaders of their workplaces and their communities. We are honored to play a small part in that journey and grateful for every family that trusts us along the way.

We’re not just teaching martial arts.

We’re helping shape the next generation of leaders. Leadership

Sometimes the best hobbies become the best parts of our lives. They came to Harvest to try something new. To get in shape. To learn a little self-defense. To see if martial arts was for them.

Then something changed.

Training became part of their routine.
Their classmates became their friends.
Challenges became opportunities.
Goals became habits.

Before long, Han Mu Do wasn’t just something they did, it became part of who they are.

It became a lifestyle.

A place to stay healthy.
A place to keep learning.
A place to challenge yourself.
A place to belong.

The fitness is important.
The techniques are important.

But it’s the friendships, the lifelong learning, and the pursuit of becoming a better version of yourself that keep people coming back year after year.

Han Mu Do is built on practical skills that help students grow stronger in body, mind, and spirit.

Wrist locking techniques are a perfect example. They teach students how to use leverage, timing, and body positioning rather than relying on strength alone. Through partner practice, students develop real self-defense skills while learning control, awareness, and respect for their training partners.

But these techniques offer more than physical benefits.

They build confidence through repetition.
They improve coordination and body awareness.
They challenge students to think, adapt, and solve problems together.

At Harvest, we believe martial arts should leave students stronger, more capable, and more optimistic than when they walked in. Every class is an opportunity to learn something new, encourage a training partner, and continue growing.

Set high goals. Open your mind. Be optimistic.

🧻. One of the most important skills we practice in Han Mu Do isn’t how to throw someone…

It’s how to fall.

At first, falling can feel uncomfortable. Your instinct is to resist the ground. But through consistent practice, students learn how to move with the impact instead of fighting against it.

Falling training teaches us how to protect our head, spine, and joints while safely absorbing force. As confidence grows, so does the ability to move freely, throw with better technique, and train without fear.

There are physical benefits too. Learning proper breakfalls develops coordination, balance, body awareness, and resilience. The body becomes stronger, more adaptable, and better prepared for the unexpected.

But perhaps the greatest lesson is mental.

When you’re no longer afraid to fall, you’re more willing to learn. You’re more willing to take on challenges, try new techniques, and continue growing.

At Harvest, we don’t just teach students how to stay on their feet, we teach them how to get back up.

Because in martial arts, and in life, knowing how to fall safely is just as important as knowing how to stand.
