I had to unload my horse, unhook my trailer, and feed everyone, in a complete downpour. Take a guess when it stopped raining? Yup…as soon as I was done feeding. Of course!

Some city girl out here saying, “we needed this…” while sitting on the front porch sipping coffee. The rest of us sloshing around in the mud hoping not to fall and break a hip! Because how embarrassing would that be in the news headlines? “Woman found drowned in a mud puddle with apparent broken hip. Horses pushing her over to get to the grain she spilled.”

I let River out of the round pen today to explore the pasture with the big horses while I was there to mow and weedeat. Turns out I didn’t need to weedeat, she’s a great little organic weedeater!

Y’all remember last month when broke my favorite Dr. Pepper headstall on the trailer by scratching her face and catching the bit on the ramp clamp?

Well, I had messaged the makers of that piece (Hot Headstalls)hoping upon hope that they would have the ability to fix it and she said absolutely she could. She would just send me a new cheek piece that my horse had broken and of course she would throw in some matching spur straps too! It was just going to take a while.

It didn’t take that long at all. I received my package yesterday and this lovely tack maker had sent me an entirely brand new headstall instead AND my requested spur straps! Y’all, I quite literally burst into tears when I pulled this beauty out of the bag. This was totally unexpected and she went completely above and beyond to accommodate me. The headstall did not break due to poor quality or any fault of hers at all but she still took it upon herself to fix my issue that was entirely my fault. That little sticker EARNED its place on the Dr. Pepper trailer.

If she wasn’t the owner of this company I’d demand she get a promotion and a raise! But since she is she will just have to settle for me praising her extremely publicly and sending ALL of my tack recommendations to her website.

Bubba’s first time over the obstacles under saddle. I couldn’t be more proud of this team. He’d probably walk through fire for her (and a cookie…)

This horse went from spooky, jumpy, and reactive over his own shadow, to willing and brave in just a few weeks of consistent training. He has never been and will never be respectful of personal space but I don’t think that’s something we actually want to change with him. We have all just accepted the fact that he’s actually just a giant, yet rideable, dog.

Finally got out today and took my girl on a much needed ride with friends! She’s currently barefooted and it’s been a couple years since she rode with boots on so it took her a minute to get used to it again but once she did her pace was much better than it has been! I’m thinking she’s actually more comfortable in boots than shoes at this point. Thank goodness no bees, hornets, or spiders, on this trail so far. The temperature was perfect, the company was fun, and the horses did fantastic. Even Sundance just walked the trail comfortably from the very beginning which doesn’t usually happen until mile 3 or 4.

Please welcome our newest boarder horse to the Happy Hills Herd.

A sweet little paint filly I have decided to call Lady for now. (Her owner has not come up with a name as of yet and she was just so lady-like and gentle getting off the trailer and meeting the rest of the herd last night.)
