Kaylin was facing a tough opponent who was well prepared for the match. With no score going into the final period her opponent had choice going bottom. Her opponent was quick to get up but Kaylin stayed in control returning her to the mat. With limited time we needed to score. A late escape would give her opponent the win. We locked eyes for a second knowing what we needed to do. I told her to let her opponent go - we needed a takedown to win.
With 30 seconds to go Kaylin let her opponent up giving her the 1-0 lead, and she went right to work. Her first takedown attempt they went out of bounds and with limited time left we once more shared a moment and I reminded her what she came here for. Kaylin shoots again getting the takedown in the final seconds of the match and winning 3-1 to claim her second state championship.

What do these wrestlers have in common?
They train in the Gi 🥋
Although it has been debated, I truly feel training in the Gi helps you slow down and understand technique, position and gives you time to think.
I highly encourage all my students to practice in the Gi, nogi and wrestling. It will only help.
It’s all grappling, just different rules.

2nd place team finish for our girls wrestling team at the NYWAY NY State Championship!
We had 4 top 3 finishes with 2 champions. The girls were dominant showing great technique, discipline and determination.

Great day of Jiu Jitsu last weekend at the NAGA tournament! Everyone performed well some for the first time, may have been the championship belts that gave them a little extra motivation! Proud of everyone’s determination and improvements!

Congratulations to my students who competed in Pride 🥋 last weekend while I was away!
We had just 2 youth and 2 adult students compete with everyone coming home with Gold.
Vin and Alex won both Gi 🥇 and Nogi 🥇 in their weight divisions while Adults Andrew and Leighton won 2 matches each in their Gi divisions.

Great showing at the USA Wrestling State Championship last weekend! The team took on some of the best in New York, earned new hardware as well as the title “all state” but most importantly showed they belong.

Last regular season tournament of the season and we finished as team champions! Everyone did great taking on all challengers, getting good tough matches in. The team gained good experiences and made final preparations for the upcoming State Championships!

Congratulations to Layla and Emma for achieving All-County this season! We’ve been training for almost 10 years and it’s great to see them become top contenders on Long Island!
Tonight it was a full moment having them come in to help some or the younger female students who compete in their first freestyle tournament this weekend!

Congratulations Justin DePietro on your 4th place finish at the New York State Championship.
Justin has been wrestling for over ten years, gaining knowledge and experience as a youth wrestler. He competed in each season until he was moved up to High School as an eighth grader. Training and Competing in over 150 matches he was more than ready to wrestle as as a top contender in the State.
So far, some of his accomplishments include
3x All-County
2X Finalist
2X State Qualifier
All-State
3X USA Wrestling State Champion
NYWAY State Champion
With one more season I look forward to seeing what else he can add to his achievements.

Great work from our wrestling team last weekend at the Long Island Regional State qualifier. Top 6 in each weight qualifies for the State Championship in 2 weeks in Syracuse!
The improvements from everyone showed in their technique, attitude and team work with 15 earning their spot upstate!

Strong start to the post season from the 🤼 team at the Nassau/Long Island Championship. After winning your division in Nassau, the Champions were challenged to wrestle the Suffolk County Champion for the Long Island Championship! Everyone had a great day wrestling their best and showing their improvements from the start of the season. Congratulations to everyone on a great performance and earning “All County”!
