🧱 Why the treadmill isn’t enough anymore.

If you’ve hit 40 and noticed that your usual 45-minute run isn’t delivering the same results, you aren’t crazy. You’re just fighting a new biological reality.

For years, we were told that "burning calories" was the holy grail of fitness. But as we enter perimenopause and menopause, the game changes entirely. 📉

Here is the science: As estrogen drops, our bodies naturally stop holding onto muscle mass. This process, called sarcopenia, slows our metabolism down to a crawl.

If you only do cardio, you might lose weight, but you often lose muscle along with fat. This slows your metabolism even further, creating a frustrating cycle where you have to eat less and less just to stay the same. 😫

The Solution? Heavy Resistance Training.

It is not about "bulking up." It is about survival. Lifting heavy weights provides the necessary stimulus to:
1️⃣ Signal your body to keep muscle tissue (your metabolic engine).
2️⃣ Stress your bones enough to prevent osteoporosis.
3️⃣ Improve insulin sensitivity, which helps manage belly fat.

Your New Protocol:

Prioritize Weights: Aim for 3 days of strength training per week.

Go Heavier: If you can easily do 20 reps, the weight is too light to change your bones. Aim for weights where the last few reps are difficult.

Recover Hard: Your body is more sensitive to cortisol now. Sleep and rest days are just as important as the workout.

Stop trying to be smaller. Start training to be stronger. 💪
