Did you know CFIH offers Traditional Strength Training? πŸ’ͺ

Until now, these small group sessions have only been offered in the mornings, but we’re getting ready to add NEW evening options, with only SIX spots available! πŸ™Œ

CrossFit is an incredible way to build strength, conditioning, and overall fitness, and we also know that your goals and training preferences can change over time.

Our Traditional Strength Training program offers another way to train at CFIH and may be a great fit if you:

πŸ’ͺ Prefer a more traditional approach to strength training, or simply want to change things up

🎯 Want more customized programming, accountability, and coaching support

πŸ™Œ Prefer a small group setting with less emphasis on higher intensity workouts, Olympic weightlifting, and higher skill gymnastics

πŸ”„ Want to continue building strength, improving function, and training for longevity, just through a different approach

Same CFIH coaching and community, just a different way to train. 😎

Interested in being one of the SIX to join us? Shoot us a DM to get on the list before we release the new time slots! πŸ‘€

W Want to improve your pull-ups, chest-to-bar pull-ups, or bar muscle-ups? πŸ’ͺ

While there are several ways to learn these skills, developing awareness of your body position, shape changes, and the timing of those changes can go a long way when it comes to gymnastics.

And focusing on the level of your feet can assist with this. πŸ™Œ

Notice where the athlete’s toes rise in relation to the background during each movement:

πŸ‘‰ Pull-up: The toes stay somewhat low as she works to get her chin over the bar.

πŸ‘‰ Chest-to-bar: The toes rise higher to help create the additional elevation needed to make contact with the bar.

πŸ‘‰ Bar muscle-up: The toes rise even higher, helping drive the hips upward and creating the elevation needed to finish on top of the bar.*

*Fun fact: This is why keeping your feet below the bar is part of the standard for the bar muscle-up in CrossFit. Allowing the feet to travel over the bar can turn the movement into more of a glide kip, making it easier to create that elevation.

πŸ”‘ The takeaway: The higher you need your body to rise, the higher your feet can travel to assist.

For the higher skill movements, be patient and keep your feet out in front of the bar longer. Using the height of your toes as a reference can help you improve the timing of your shape changes and create more elevation, rather than simply trying to pull harder.

Save this post and give it a try! πŸ™Œ

Want some individual help with your gymnastics? Send us a DM to set up a skill session with one of our coaches. πŸ‘Š

Consistency pays off! πŸ’ͺ

Over her last 90 days, Carol has:

⬆️ Gained 5 lbs of muscle mass
⬇️ Dropped a whopping 6% body fat!

Those results come from consistently showing up, putting in the work, and staying committed to the goals she set. Way to go, Carol! πŸ™Œ

This is also why we encourage every CFIH member to complete a Goal Review every 90 days. It gives us a chance to measure your progress, revisit your goals, celebrate what’s working, and make adjustments to your plan when needed.

Small actions, repeated consistently, lead to big changes over time. πŸ‘Š

CFIH members, when was your last Goal Review? If it’s been more than 90 days, reach out to a coach and get yours on the calendar! 🎯

Build something that lasts...

How many times have you started a fitness routine, missed a few workouts, and decided you'd just "start again Monday"?

If that's a common experience for you, know that we've all been there.

And you don't need to be perfect to make progress or create lasting change. You just need to be π—°π—Όπ—»π˜€π—Άπ˜€π˜π—²π—»π˜, even if being consistent once a week is your starting point.

And when you keep showing up, the changes start adding up. You get stronger, your conditioning improves, and movements that used to feel difficult become much easier.

You start doing things you couldn't do a few months ago, and that feels awesome!

And that's the part of fitness that doesn't always get talked about. The wins.

The small ones. The big ones. The things you didn't think you'd be able to do when you started.

Consistency gives you more opportunities to experience those wins.

It's why our CFIH members can take on something like our HYROX Mini Simulation without spending months training specifically for HYROX. They've been building strength, endurance, stamina, power, coordination, and more through their regular training.

The Mini Sim is simply a chance to put all that work together and see how well your training is working.

And that's what we want you to remember:

You don't have to wait for the ideal time or prepare by "getting back in shape" before you can start.

That's our job.

All you have to do is show up, and keep showing up.

And whether you're a CFIH member or not, you have an opportunity to test your fitness this Saturday. πŸ‘Š

The final week of August is here, and you still have time to earn your spot in our Committed Club! πŸ’ͺ

Whether your goal is to get in 3 times this week, or simply show up once after a vacation or some time away, get those workouts on your calendar and make them a priority.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, just keep showing up and building that consistency. πŸ™Œ

We’ll see you soon! πŸ‘Š

Ever wonder what a CrossFit class at CFIH actually looks like? πŸ‘€

To sum it up, every class is coach led from start to finish, with a warm up, movement instruction and practice, strength or skill work, and a workout designed to challenge you at your current level. πŸ’ͺ

You’ll get coaching throughout the entire hour, modifications when you need them, and a group of people working alongside you.

And remember, every workout is scalable! You don’t have to be β€œin shape” before you start, and you don’t have to keep up with anyone else. We meet you where you are and help you build from there. πŸ™Œ

Ladies and gents, please join us in welcoming Coach Michelle to the CFIH team! πŸ™Œ

Coach Michelle is coming on as our Nutrition Coach, and we are thrilled to have her. πŸ’ͺ

Here is some background info on her you should know:

β€œI have been active my entire life. Growing up in northern MN there was a lot of downhill skiing, skating and rollerblading with dance and competitive gymnasticsΒ thrown in. In college I picked up running and going to the gym,Β but it was mostly cardio.

When my kids were young it was boot camp and distance running completing a couple of marathons. Fast forward to 2018. I moved to Chicago by myself for a job not knowing a single soul there. I knew of the community associated with CrossFit so I joined a box 2 blocks from my house to get regular exercise and hopefully make some friends. It was love at first sight.

I continue to do CrossFit today, not just because I get a little stir crazy without regular exercise, but because it is what will allow me to do the activities I want for years to come (ask me about curling sometime) as well as show friends and family that fitness is for everyone.

Nutrition was a natural curiosity for me to go along with fitness. There are a lot of shiny objects out there on the topic that confuse people and it’s really not that complicated. Building healthy habits one at a time creates a lifestyle that is sustainable. So if I ask you if you’ve eaten your fruits and vegetables, now you know why.”

Please give her a warm welcome when you see her, and make her feel at home as our newest member of the CFIH team! 🫢
