It is with great pleasure and honor that we present Brian Gleed his Shodan certificate! He started Aikido at Florida Aikikai when he was 7 years-old and hasn’t skipped a beat. Under the guidance of Helen Reynolds Brian has become a leader of our children’s program and a role model for the young Aikido generation coming into its own. He is our future 🙏. We applaud 👏 his success!

Tonight we had six students on the mat who came up through our kids program. A purple belt, a red belt, 5th kyu, 4th kyu, 3rd kyu, and a shodan. Ages 12-22. Dedicated students with years on the mat. Over 40 years between them! A torn ACL, a broken collar bone. Hundreds of days in our school break camps. Countless hours spent after classes on test prep. Something keeps them coming back to class. The dojo has become home, community. It is the greatest joy to watch them grow. It is an honor to teach them. New horizons for all of us. 🤍

Florida Aikikai represents at Berkeley Aikikai 2026 Summer Seminar. Instruction lead by Shibata Shihan, Suzuki Shihan with Kang Shihan, Peter Bernath Shihan, Marianne Shibata Shihan, and Penny Bernath Shihan.
