To help you find boats, services, & solutions to anything related. Instead, he elected to follow his own heart in pursuit of a career in the yachting industry.
Raised by his highly successful stock broker mother in the prestigious waterfront neighborhood of Las Olas, Matthew Whelpley Stone learned at a young age that your work ethic, reputation and word are all you have in life. Born the son of famous architect Edward Durell Stone jr and grandson to the world renowned architect Edward Durell Stone Sr., Matthew could have easily followed the path that had
been so nicely trail blazed before him and joined the family business. Chasing his dream quickly paid off as he moved up the ranks achieving his captains license at the impressive age of only 21. Both Yachting magazine and International Yacht magazine featured articles on him being the youngest Captain in the industry. Growing up in South Florida made it easy for Stone to become an expert in the eastern and western Caribbean charter, dive and fishing scene. He spent many summers and weekends navigating the waters around Miami and The Bahamas where he used his strong social skills and rock solid reputation to form long- standing alliances with a roster of industry colleagues and peers who trusted him and would consistently recommend his services to their clients. This growing network made the transition from Yacht Captain to Yacht Broker a no brainer for Matthew. He was actively recruited by several brokerage firms before joining the Lazzara Lenton team in August 2014 and then moving to a boutique firm at 26 North Yachts in October 2015. Stone's interests and activity doesn't stop there. Always impeccably dressed, his own personal style helped sharpen his eye for menswear design in general. In 2014, he and two partners launched their first clothing label called Since, which is featured in three specialty boutiques in South Florida. In an effort to cater to like-minded individuals who appreciate high-end fashion (but couldn't find any local retail shops carrying the right brands), Stone and his partners opened 1977, an exclusive men's
boutique in the up and coming neighborhood of Fat Village in Fort Lauderdale. In his limited free-time, Matthew releases stress and refuels by playing soccer, bike riding or participating in any water-related sport such as surfing, wake-boarding, paddle-boarding and most especially scuba diving. When asked for a quote to describe his outlook on life, Stone quotes, “ A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others” Ayn Rand
