First official day of competition was a success! Bella and Alastor had a nice 36 after each spending a while out of the show ring! Despite a couple test errors, Emmah rode Hippy through a lovely test, another pair new to each other and new to Eventing! Opie was absolutely perfect and gave me a lovely ride, but I had an error early on 🤦♀️ though, she still scored a 32! Elsa and Athena and Az somehow managed to score exactly the same and is now tied for 5th with herself 😂 Sylvie was a little stressed without her buddies, but her and olivia still had some great moments! Our other CSU teams had great rides with their OTTB’s, as well! Finished the day with a dip in the lake and another xc course walk! Looking forward to xc tomorrow!

Arrived last night and we’re so excited to be here!
Ready (ish) to go bright and early!
After a rocky start to our morning, and a bummer moment for Eisley, we had a successful xc school at Archer with Emmah and Hippy (headed to Rebecca), Lisa and Cash, Kenley and Jack, Elsa and Az (headed to Rebecca) and I brought Rygun along for his first off property outing! Back tomorrow with another group and then, hopefully we have time to pack for the trip 😅
Asteria (Aster) has been learning a lot this past week! Ponying with big sister, Opie and mom, Atta, and having her first sit (if you don’t count Lily sitting on her first 😂)! We get a lot of horses coming through here and a LOT of youngsters! Often, I have people asking me what I want a young horse to know before coming to be started, OR how much handling should a baby really get in their first few years? I’m going to perhaps break the mold or make some people angry 😅 but, my answer is usually, ‘Not Much!’
Aster (like Opie) was minimally handled as a baby (just basics), then turned out with mom for a year, then brought in for a week for her inspections as a yearling, turned back out for a year, then brought in for a month or so as a 2 yr old, turned back out for a year and now back to be started as a 3 yr old and she’s pretty dang perfect! We’ve done the same sort of schedule with all our babies, and if the breeding/mind is good, this is plenty!
Sure, there are risks to sending them out to pasture but I wouldn’t change a thing! There is so much these youngsters can learn just living out in a herd, and a good mind is the MOST important thing!
We’ve had youngsters come through here that have been handled extensively, or not turned out much and we deal with burnout and cranky baby behaviors that never should’ve started in the first place and are easily preventable.
Get those youngsters outside and stop worrying about how much your yearlings, 2 yr olds, even 3 year olds know! They’ll be better off for it, and a good trainer will get them started with No issues 😊

Big thanks to of for taking Ziva while we’re at Rebecca! This way, Ziva can be sure to get all the specialized care she needs while we’re away 😍 Unfortunately, she does have an SDFT lesion, but the good news is that we caught it VERY early and we’ve been pretty aggressive with treatment, so 🤞🏼 she’s back to her old self next season! I’m probably over analyzing, but after looking through the photos, wondering if that landing on the second to last jump gave her left front an extra tweak 😩 Poor Ziva gave Elsa their best Training level xc round that day, so we’re sad but thankful we caught it early and that we have a great plan for recovery!
Some fun photos from Mile High Horse Trials by .bryan.100 ! Enjoy Opie’s ridiculous flyer on the second to last fence 🤦♀️ and you can also tell how scatterbrained I was that day (my mind was definitely on Ziva 😞) since not only did I miss a jump on xcc but I did Dressage in my green schooling pad and didn’t even notice! 😅 Athena and Elsa looked great and of course, our favorite spotted pony looking perfect, as always!

Late posting, but shout out to and Dagny! Both had great rides at Mile High Sunday! Though, they each had some water issues, the rest was smooth and it was a fun day!
🐴
Good vibes please for the best spotted pony! Ziva’s left front had some swelling I did not like the look of after the event this weekend 😩 She’s been getting all the special treatment, icing, cryo gun, laser, wrapping, etc. It’s so hard not to blame ourselves; been wondering if she was hurting before and we just didn’t know, or if it was just a fluke and she over stressed it; being a Training level pony is hard 😩 Hopefully, we’ll know what’s going on soon!
Have to highlight perfect Opie, who was awesome across all three phases at her first recognized Novice, even though her mom kept her from a 2nd place finish 🤦♀️😅 Maybe you guys can see when I just non chalantly canter past the jump on xc… didn’t even know I skipped one until I saw my score! And, that’s after walking the course multiple times both days with different students… 😂 Anyway, Opie is a winner in my book!
