SUCCESSFUL IBEX TAG IN NEW MEXICO!!!!

Thank you Matt for trusting me with your applications!

Incredibly low draw odds and an extremely tough hunt, going to be fun 😎

By the way, this tag had less than 2% draw odds for 2025

If you apply for all species in New Mexico, the total cost with your habitat stamp include(only necessary to buy if successfully drawn, $10) is $9,290.

If you aren’t unsuccessful for all your applications, a return of $9,095 will be sent back to you.

This means it costs a total of $195 to apply in New Mexico for every species available in the draw.

Crossing my fingers I don’t get the full $9,095 back 🤞

Could you imagine the pain of saving for 29 years for a trophy bull tag in Colorado, only to accidentally put the wrong hunt code in and using your 29 points for an OTC cow tag….

Save yourself the heart break like this fella did.

Let Tag Team Hunts put your Colorado applications in for the upcoming 2026 season!

Note: if you already have points saved for a Colorado, they will be changing to a 50/50 split in 2028. 50% of tags will go to the current preference point draw while the remaining 50% will go to a new bonus point draw.

Deadline to apply is April 7th!

Photo: the top left circle is the hunt code(E=elk and F=female) while the bottom shows the lucky hunter using their 29 years of buying/saving points to draw a tag that had 27 remaing tags after the first draw.

Without a doubt, my favorite and the coolest state to apply to is….New Mexico! Here’s the states breakdown:

The best part about New Mexico…it’s a random draw state. There are no bonus points or preference points. Your first year applying, you have the exact same draw odds as a person who has been applying for 20 years. The kicker for New Mexico though, is that nonresidents without a guide are limited to only 6% of the tags. This requires a minimum of 13 tags available for a unit in order for a nonresident to have a chance of drawing. I do not recommend applying to New Mexico as a party application.

New Mexico is very affordable compared to other states to apply. You are required to buy two non-refundable products: a hunting license($90 for nonresidents) and a HMAV stamp ($4). If you are drawn, you will most likely have to buy a habitat stamp as well ($10). The crappiest part about New Mexico… you have to pay upfront the entire tag cost when you apply. The positive about that though…if you are unsuccessful in the draw, it only costs $13 per application!

Example:
The Aoudad tag amount due to apply is $373….if unsuccessful in drawing, the state returns $360 to you!

There’s a few more details to the draw, and you can reach out to me with any questions. The state also offers youth, disabled and military special hunts for those who fall into those categories.

They offer some extremely high quality hunts for Rocky Mtn Elk, Mule/Coues Deer, Desert/Rocky Bighorn Sheep, Pronghorn, Oryx, Aoudad and Ibex.

New Mexico offers some of the coolest opportunities like no other state for free range DIY exotics. You can travel to other parts of the country(high fenced/outfitters on private ranches) or world to chase these species. My recommendation is you can put your name in a hat in NM and chase them on their own landscape.

Exotic release years:
Aoudad- 1940s
Ibex- 1970
Oryx- 1969

The draw deadline is March 18th at 5pm MDT. Draw results will be posted on April 22nd.

I appreciate all of the awesome folks who have reached out to me regarding this new adventure!

One of the top questions I’ve received so far was, “What are my credentials?”

I didn’t have an answer besides the fact that I love the outdoors, and that I have put a lot of time into getting myself in the position to chase as many animals as I can, as often as I can.

So I did the math and these are my credentials: I apply to or have hunted 24 states and 1 reservation in the past 8 years. I put my name in the hat for somewhere between 50-55 big game applications a year which does not count any of the state/private raffles I love donating to. I’ve been lucky enough to draw some extremely tough and cool tags like my New Mexico Oryx. With all the applications, some tags I don’t expect to draw for 40+ years of applying….or ever. But your odds of getting drawn in 40 years are 0% if you don’t start now for some of these species.

My favorite place to hunt/be is Alaska, my favorite species to hunt is Mule Deer, my favorite state to apply to is New Mexico and my dream tag is any sheep tag or a New Mexico Ibex
