Before the NBA. Before the Olympics. Before the national spotlight—there was Flint, Michigan, and Jeff Grayer.
A product of Flint Northwestern, Grayer helped establish himself as one of the city’s great basketball talents. His game carried the toughness, confidence and pride that Flint basketball has become known for.
Then came Iowa State.
From 1984–1988, Grayer became a Cyclone legend, finishing his career with:

And he got better every year:
• 1984–85: 12.2 PPG | 6.5 RPG
• 1985–86: 20.7 PPG | 6.3 RPG
• 1986–87: 22.4 PPG | 7.0 RPG
• 1987–88: 25.3 PPG | 9.4 RPG
His senior season was a statement. 25.3 points and 9.4 rebounds a night, proving that the kid from Flint belonged on the biggest stages in college basketball.
Grayer became a three-time All-Big Eight selection, finished as Iowa State’s all-time leading scorer with 2,502 points, was selected 13th overall in the 1988 NBA Draft, and later represented the United States on the 1988 Olympic basketball team.
But history doesn’t begin with the draft.
It begins in Flint.
From Flint Northwestern to Iowa State, from the NBA to the Olympics, Jeff Grayer carried Flint basketball with him every step of the way.
