There’s less than two weeks to speak up for the Roadless Rule.

Ten years ago, our teammate Michael thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail at age 21. When he recently looked at the areas affected by the proposed rescission of the Roadless Rule, he found himself tracing that journey again.

“When I looked at the map highlighting the roadless areas that could lose national protections, I couldn’t believe how many appeared along the Appalachian Trail. As I traced the route, they brought me back to memories from my 2016 thru-hike.

Growing up on the East Coast, access to wilderness without roads gave me a rare sense of serenity, peace and self-reflection. That hike launched a lifelong passion for long-distance hiking. These places hold some of the most meaningful memories of my life and helped shape who I am today.

I submitted a public comment in favor of keeping existing protections because I want these places to remain living and wild, and I want future generations to have the chance to form their own memories there.”

The Roadless Rule currently applies to nearly 45 million acres of National Forest System lands. USDA has proposed rescinding it, which would remove the rule’s national restrictions on road construction, road reconstruction and timber harvesting.

Public comments close September 21 and it's our chance to speak up. Learn more and submit a comment sharing why these places matter to you at kahtoola.com/speak-up

Our waterproof gaiters just got even better. Just in time for fall, we’re introducing three new gaiters in the lineup: the all-new TERRAgaiter™, and the fully redesigned LEVAgaiter® GTX and NAVAgaiter® GTX.

We listened closely to real-world feedback and made changes to address common issues customers faced. The result is improved fit, enhanced durability and easier adjustment, making the gaiters more intuitive to use and providing more defense against mud, snow, and debris.

Summer might be unofficially over in a few days, but that just means the best running weather is right around the corner.

For long weekend miles, quick out and backs and everything in between, we made INSTAgaiter SL to be our most minimal gaiter that makes you forget it’s even there.

And while we can’t make running easier, at least you don’t need to use rocks in your shoes as an excuse to stop anymore (that’s a good thing, right?) 👀

As a Flagstaff-based company, the Grand Canyon has always been more than a place to explore for us. It’s a source of inspiration, a place of cultural and spiritual significance for Tribes, and deeply meaningful to our local communities.

Our hearts hurt for those affected by the devastating flash floods in the Canyon recently. We’re keeping them, their loved ones and the surrounding communities in our thoughts. To the search and rescue teams, park staff, and everyone else responding to the flooding and supporting those affected, thank you for everything you’re doing out there.

The Roadless Rule protects 60 million acres of National Forest lands. Nearly 45 million of those acres — almost equivalent to the size of the entire state of Washington — are at risk. Now’s the time to act: public comments are open until Sept. 21.

For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected National Forest lands and the local communities, Tribes and outdoor recreation that they support. Now, the Forest Service intends to rescind this policy that would open these lands for potential development and extraction.

As outdoor enthusiasts, we need to speak up. The critical public comment period ends Sept. 21 – take action and share with your community for awareness: kahtoola.com/speak-up

What’s trail magic? For some, it’s a fabled event that only happens to the chosen few. For others, it’s a chance to show up for the thru-hiking community and pay it forward. 🏔️

When Tyler 'Mac' Fox reached out and asked if we’d like to surprise the PCT Class of 2026 at Onion Valley, we were stoked to jump on board and add to the pool of goodies up for grabs. Seeing everyone recharge, rest and gear up for the next stretch was such a reward.

Disappointed would be an understatement to describe how we feel. Yesterday’s proclamations to reduce the boundaries of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments were not mere “modifications” — they were steps to erase their existence by cutting over 90% of their current area.

We stand strongly opposed to these actions taken by the Trump administration. This move was framed as “improving public access”. But the lands were already public — hiking, climbing, hunting, rafting and motorized recreation on designated routes were already allowed. What the proclamations do mostly clearly is open almost 3 million acres to for mining, development and sell-offs.

National monuments belong to the people, not to private interests. They’re ancestral homelands, not commodities. We stand with the Tribes, communities and partners that have fought to protect them, and will continue to fight for their existence.

Our public lands are not for sale. Get involved and sign the petition: https://app.oneclickpolitics.com/campaign-page?cid=6NLK5gEz468wpwt5YKS1a
