I’m shaking as I type this but sadly Dolly Parton has passed away & we are unbelievably heartbroken 💔
For those that don’t know, Anna (me) doesn’t really idolize people but I idolize Dolly Parton for many reasons & she inspired me in many ways. I even have a tattoo of her
She is generous, kind, loving, & her philanthropic work changed millions of lives. She always found ways to uplift those who were disadvantaged. Even though she grew up extremely poor she always used any privilege she had to help bring others up with her. She was a voice for all marginalized groups which included not only her speaking up for others but also her investing both time & money to help their communities
As “Dreamer-in-Chief” in more ways than just at Dollywood, “she never saw a door she couldn’t open & the doors she opened made & changed history,” Dolly’s nephew. Even through the hard times, she found joy in her journey. I think her song Coat of Many Colors shows this perfectly. There can always be good to be found if you are searching for it. Her hard earned freedom, independence, courage & trust in herself in the face of adversity are also inspiring. She showed the world what it looks like to lead with love & was a light that inspired so many & will continue to do so even now
She lit a fire in me a long time ago when I randomly found her music, that led me to discover who she was & the life she led. She is unapologetically herself in all aspects. This led me on a journey of self-exploration & self-love with someone who had done it too. I went from being meek, quiet, super depressed & so far away from my sense of self to being able to be fully me & unapologetic about it. I learned to live in ways I loved without shame. She led me to be better
This personal transformation took a lot of self-work, therapy, listening to others experiences, & intentional time but her life story & music has forever changed my life. I will be forever grateful for the embers that she lit that turned into this blazing fire within me now
A true icon does not describe the light she brought to this world & will continue to bring & inspire for years to come
We will always love you Dolly!
