I have been thinking about this for a long time, and I believe she is exactly right about this. One time I had a client tell me that she found Pilates boring and why did we practice the same movements repetitiously ... I was gobsmacked ... how in the world would anyone be bored practicing Pilates?????????????????? Here is the answer, Pilates is for everybody, but not everybody is for Pilates! It is demanding of the practitioner and requires discipline, and not everyone wants that. I still have a hard time with that notion, since I believe it gives so much back!

That thing you’re chasing is not what’s going to change you!
Choose a Process Goal over an Outcome Goal
OUTCOME GOAL: you skip over the foundations to get to the end goal and you missed the true benefits that movement skill offers.
PROCESS GOAL: you’re working on transferable skills that create all the strength and small changes that add up to the outcomes you seek!
Example:
OUTCOME: you achieve a Pull-Up on the Wunda Chair by jumping or “pulling” from your quads and hinging in your hips,
OR
PROCESS: you learn how to work the transferable SKILL of dynamic equilibrium so that you float up with control and precision.
What makes it a skill?
It’s transferable to many, many other exercises/movements in the system.
We all love a goal to work towards, but the real transformation doesn’t happen when you do just anything to reach it, it happens in everything you learn along the way.
