Congratulations to Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll on winning her 4th GAM Women’s Senior Championship in 5 years. After posting a 75 yesterday, she shot a 4 under 68 to finish at 1 under 143 for the 2 day tournament.

Pentwater’s Julie Massa finishes runner up after a great 2 days with rounds of 73-73-146!

DAVID VACLAV ADVANCES TO ROUND OF 32 AT U.S. SENIOR AMATEUR

David Vaclav of Flat Rock won his Round of 64 match Monday and advanced to the Round of 32 Tuesday in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Baltimore Country Club in Maryland.

Vaclav, won the first five holes of his match and eventually turned back Gerard Connolly of Ireland 4 and 3.

He will play Tony Wise of Georgetown, KY, in Tuesday morning’s Round of 32. A win in that match would advance him to the afternoon Round of 16. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches are scheduled for Wednesday, and the championship match is on Thursday.

Two other GAM members lost in the Round of 64 on Monday. Greg Davies of West Bloomfield was topped by Mike Sposa of Spartanburg, SC, 2 and 1, and Kevin VandenBerg, formerly of Mattawan, lost 3 and 2 to Tim Hogarth of Northridge, CA.

JULIE MASSA LEADS GAM WOMEN’S SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

BRUTUS – Julie Massa of Pentwater shot a 1-over par round of 73 to take the lead through the first round of the 30th GAM Women’s Senior Championship presented by Golf Digest at Hidden River Golf & Casting Club Monday.

Massa, a Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member, is a two-time champion having previously won the title in 2017 and 2020. Both of those championships were also played at Hidden River.

Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll of Haslett, who is also a Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member and three-time Women’s Senior champion (2022, ’23 and ’24), shot 75 to stand second.

Defending champion Lori Schlicher of Lewiston shot 78 and was tied for third with 2018 champion Shelly Weiss of Southfield, and Donna Tepper of Grosse Pointe Park shot 79 to round out the top five.

The field of 88 golfers play another 18 holes on Tuesday to determine this year’s champion.

One more Michigan golfer makes the cut at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. Midland’s Kim Dinh makes the round of 64 after making par on the first playoff hole this morning at Montclair GC in West Orange, NJ! Dinh, the 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion will face off against Ina Kim-Schaad of Jupiter, Fl at 10:50 am

TWO GAM GOLFERS MAKE MATCH PLAY, ANOTHER PENDING PLAYOFF AT U.S. WOMEN’S MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Elayna Bowser of Dearborn and Mary Janiga Kartes of Kentwood advanced to match play on Monday in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J.

Another notable GAM golfer, Kim Dinh of Midland, the 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, could join them if she survives an eight-golfer playoff Monday morning for the final four spots in the 64-golfer match play bracket.

Kartes shot an even-par 70 for 147 and a tie for 16th Sunday to earn her spot in match play, and Bowser, who reached the Round of 16 a year ago in the national championship, shot 75 for 149 and tied for 29th to advance.

Dinh shot 80 for 154 and landed in the tie for 61st with seven other golfers.

Four other GAM member golfers who were in the starting field on Saturday failed to make the 36-hole cut into match play.

That group included Laura Bavaird of Trenton, who last year reached the Round of 16 with Bowser. She shot 81 for 156.

Also missing the cut was Caroline Ellis of Haslett, who shot 81 for 155, Isabella Gimenez of Clarkston, who shot 76 for 166, and Priscilla Harding, of South Lyon, who shot 81 for 165.

THREE GAM GOLFERS ADVANCE TO MATCH PLAY, ANOTHER PENDING PLAYOFF AT U.S. SENIOR AMATEUR

Kevin VandenBerg, the New York resident formerly from Mattawan, David Vaclav of Flat Rock and Greg Davies of West Bloomfield advanced to match play starting Monday at the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Baltimore Country Club in Maryland.

Another GAM golfer, Mike Anderson of Northville, who reached the quarterfinals a year ago in the national championship, could join them if he survives a 13-golfer playoff for the final 3 spots Monday morning.

VandenBerg shot a 72 for 3-over 143 Sunday and tied for fifth through the two rounds of stroke play to determine the match play bracket.

Vaclav shot 70 for 145 and tied for 15th to advance, and Davies, like VandenBerg a Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member, shot 74 for 150 and a tie for 51st.

Anderson, who shot 79 for 151, finished stroke play in a 13-player tie for 62nd and moved on to the playoff to determine the 64 match play spots.

Two other GAM members, Leo Daigle of Wixom and Mike Cairns of Detroit, missed the 36-hole cut. Daigle shot 77 for 154, and Cairns 76 for 156.

The round of 64 is scheduled to be competed on Monday, with the Round of 32 and Round of 16 slated for Tuesday. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be on Wednesday and the 18-hole championship match on Thursday.

Congratulations to Shelby Twp.’s Jacob Scharret and Ronnie Aniel III, who shot a 9 under par 63 at the Avon Oaks CC Local Qualifier yesterday to qualify for the 2027 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball!

The 2027 US Amateur Four-Ball will be held May 22-26, 2027 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin.

After posting an impressive 2 day total of 13 under 131, the team of Bill Ulle and David LeVan win the 20th GAM Senior Four-Ball Championship!

Taking runner-up after making a birdie on 18, is the team of Tom Senkowski and Chris Bailey.

And the team of Jim Hegarty and Randy Lewis take the Super Senior title with a 2 day total of 10 under 134. The Jackson team of Mike Raymond and Steve Maddalena were runner-ups.
