Elizabeth Ramsey (she/her), originally from Toledo, Ohio, is a professional dance artist, choreographer, and educator. She earned her BFA in Dance summa cm laude from Wright State University and spent three seasons with DCDC2 before joining the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company in 2016. During her career with DCDC, Elizabeth performed several of the company’s historic works, including Ulysses Dove’s Vespers and Donald McKayle and Ronald K. Brown’s Children of the Passage. Her performance credits also include works by Tommie-Waheed Evans, Rennie Harris, Talley Beatty, Donald Byrd, Ray Mercer, Dwight Rhoden, Kevin Ward, and Crystal Michelle Perkins.
As a choreographer, Elizabeth premiered her first mainstage work for DCDC, DEEP/END, at Cincinnati’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater in 2021. She has also created original works for Wright State University, the University of Dayton, DCDC2, and the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, where she has served as a guest teacher and resident choreographer and helped develop the school’s senior choreography capstone. Her work has been featured in the Ohio Dance Festival’s Professional Theater Concert, and in 2022, her work Love Letter for Mothers received first place at SALT Contemporary Dance’s SHAPE Choreography Festival. In 2024, she was awarded an Ohio Arts Council Artist Opportunities Grant in support of her continued artistic development.
Elizabeth is also a founding member of Dayton Dance Initiative, a dancer-led collaborative project bringing together professional artists from DCDC and Dayton Ballet. Her experience creating dance for film includes choreography for Anesthesiaphobia, a collaboration with Wright State University’s film department that premiered at the Dayton Art Institute, as well as numerous dance-for-camera projects with DCDC. As an educator, she teaches modern and contemporary dance, choreography, and composition, with an emphasis on helping young artists develop individuality, curiosity, and confidence in their movement.
