We asked one of our little dancers, “What do you love most about recital?” 🥹🩰

Her answer?

“I love dancing with my ballerinas.” 💕✨

And THAT is what it’s all about.

She gets to dance with us at her school and the studio then step onto the Lovely Leaps recital stage — but what she remembers most isn’t the costumes, the lights, or the applause…

It’s dancing alongside her ballerina friends. 🥹💗

These are the little moments that remind us why we do what we do. Creating friendships, confidence, memories, and a love of dance that we hope stays with them for years to come.

When Lovely Leaps first started, our oldest student was only 5 years old! 😅 And as our dancers grew… we realized our studio needed to grow with them.

So we started asking the families of our oldest dancers LOTS and LOTS of questions. 💕 We wanted to understand three things:

1. How can we best serve them as they grow?
2. What are their dance goals as a family?
3. How can we create the best balance between dance, school, family time, and just being a kid?

Because our goal has never been to simply teach dance.

We want to create a place where a 2-year-old can take her very first dance class… and years later, we’re still cheering her on as she grows into the dancer—and person—she’s becoming. 🥹✨

They grow & Lovely Leaps grows right alongside them. 💗

From their very first plié and tiny twirls to watching them grow into confident dancers, teenagers, performers, and young artists… what an honor it is to be part of their story. 🥹💕

We’ve had the privilege of teaching children virtually, in our Escondido studio, in Scripps Ranch, at Kids & Coffee, through school programs, preschools and daycares, and within Escondido Unified School District. 🎀

For some, we get to be their very first introduction to dance. For others, we get the incredible privilege of watching that love grow year after year — seeing where dance takes them and who they become along the way.

Whether we’re there for their first dance class or cheering them on years later, we’ll never take for granted that we got to be a small part of their childhood. 🥹🩰

15,000+ dancers, countless memories, and so many stories still being written.

What an honor. 💕

How do we get a whole class of TWO-YEAR-OLDS to patiently wait their turn?! 😂🩰✨

It’s possible — but at this age, we don’t just tell them to “wait.” We teach them HOW to wait. Here are 3 things we use at Lovely Leaps that make a huge difference:

✨ 1. Give them a SPOT.
Use floor dots, stars, hoops, or another visual marker. Instead of “wait over there,” each dancer has a clear little home base. Two-year-olds do SO much better when they can see where their body belongs.

✨ 2. Keep the line SHORT.
Don’t have 10 tiny dancers waiting for one turn! Create multiple stations or send 2–3 dancers at a time. Less waiting = less wandering, touching friends, and losing focus. 😂

✨ 3. Make waiting part of the activity.
Give the dancers waiting a job! “Can you clap for your friend?” “Show me your butterfly wings!” “Can you count 1…2…3?” Their bodies and brains stay engaged while they learn that someone else gets a turn, too.

The goal at TWO isn’t perfect classroom behavior. 🤍 It’s creating little routines they can understand and repeat week after week.

And eventually… that adorable chaotic line starts looking like a real dance class. 🥹🩰

Nothing on this earth will convince me that dance is NOT a sport. 😂👏

The strength.
The stamina.
The flexibility.
The coordination.
The hours of training.
The injuries.
The conditioning.
The discipline.
The mental toughness.

And somehow… you’re expected to do ALL of that while making it look effortless. ✨🩰

Dancers are ATHLETES. Period. 💪🏽🔥

The difference? Our athletes perform with a smile, pointed toes, and a little sparkle. ✨

The simplest things make the BIGGEST difference in a preschool dance class 🩰✨

🎀 Color-coded scrunchies for right & left!
Giving them a visual cue makes learning directions so much easier.

Preschool dance isn’t just about teaching the steps. It’s about learning how to teach the little dancer in front of you. 🥹💕

From back-to-dance moments and big smiles to new friendships, growing confidence, and LOTS of dancing — August was full of Lovely Leaps magic! 🩰🎀

Now we’re leaping into SEPTEMBER and we couldn’t be more excited! 🍂✨

Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

Our studios and office are closed today so our teachers and staff can enjoy the day with their own families. All classes resume tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8.
