Colorado uses three eBike classes based on how the motor assists you and the bike’s maximum assisted speed. Knowing the difference can help you choose the right bike and understand where you may be able to ride it.
When shopping, check the bike’s label for its class, motor wattage, and top assisted speed. Vehicles that exceed Colorado’s eBike limits may fall into a different vehicle category with different rules.

Here’s a simple example:
If an eBike is priced at $1,999, sales tax is applied first. At a 7.4% tax rate, the total comes to $2,146.94.
From there, eligible discounts and rebates are applied. For Colorado residents, the $225 eBike tax credit would bring the final total in this example down to $1,921.94.
