had my daughter August 19. ❤️
I got to go home, and that following Sunday I ended up going to the ER because my blood pressure was high and I just started feeling… weird.
At first, I honestly thought it was just hormones.
I thought maybe my second C-section recovery was just harder this time.
I had just had a baby. I was exhausted. My body was healing. I figured this was all part of it.
Thank GOD I know my body.
They released me from my local hospital, and the very next day I had a follow-up appointment with my OB because of the high blood pressure I had experienced Sunday.
I had NEVER had high blood pressure during my pregnancy or immediately after having my daughter.
My first blood pressure cuff wasn’t working correctly. So I went and bought another one… and she told me that one was wrong too.
So she took my blood pressure herself.
170/90.
They admitted me.
I had fluid on my lungs and ended up staying in the hospital for another two days.
And I’m sharing this because I genuinely had NO IDEA this could happen after you have your baby.
MAMAS — YOU CAN GET PREECLAMPSIA AFTER DELIVERY.
Even if you had a perfectly healthy pregnancy.
Even if you worked out.
Even if you lifted weights.
Even if you ate healthy.
Even if you gained a “healthy” amount of weight.
I worked out throughout my pregnancy. I lifted. I ate well. I gained only 16 pounds.
And none of that meant I was immune.
Sometimes there are things completely outside of our control.
I’m not sharing this to scare anyone. I’m sharing it because if one mom reads this and thinks, “Wait… something doesn’t feel right,” and gets checked, then sharing my story was worth it.
Listen to your body.
If you’re postpartum, consider having a blood pressure cuff at home and knowing what your normal readings are. Postpartum preeclampsia can develop after delivery, including weeks after you’ve had your baby.
I thought I was just recovering.
I wasn’t.
So please, mamas — don’t ignore the feeling that something isn’t right just because you already had your baby.
You know your body. Trust it. Get checked. ❤️
If this helps even one mom, share it. You never know who needs to hear it. 💓
