Some days around here are pretty ordinary.
We saddle up, gather the cattle, sort a few, move a few and spend a lot of time just trying to do things the right way.
For Tate, at 11 years old, this is part of growing up.
He’s learning from the horses, from the cattle, from Tracy, from the people around him — and honestly, from making plenty of mistakes along the way.
There is still so much for him to learn, and we certainly don't have all the answers ourselves. But we are incredibly grateful that he gets the opportunity to learn these things the old-fashioned way — in the saddle, with a job to do, surrounded by animals and people who are willing to teach him.
Working cattle has a way of teaching you to slow down, pay attention and be humble. The cattle don't care how old you are or how much you think you know. You have to listen, watch and adjust.
We're grateful for the horses that take care of our kids, the cattle that teach them, and the people who have taken the time to teach Tate along the way.
He's got a long way to go.
But we're pretty thankful he gets to spend the journey right here.
Just another day at the ranch.
