SOLD!
2024 grade dun mare
14 hands

Fiona was started by us this spring and then turned out to grow some more this summer.

She loves attention, has a ton of personality and everyone just falls in love with her.
Fiona has about 30 days of riding. She was sold to an older gentleman this spring who now had to decide it was too difficult to still be doing all this horse stuff.

She has a little bit of s***k when lunged, but always rode super quietly for us. She trail rode well this spring and w/t/l in the arena, pivots and sidepasses (but needs finished). Fiona has been desensitized and gets along in a mixed herd.

She stalls well or can be turned out 24/7. Stands for the farrier and vet.

UTD on vaccines, coggins and had her teeth done this spring.

I could see her being a great 4-H project horse or maybe someone would even like to turn her into a little gaming horse.

Jackson had a wild birthday ride at the horse show the other day πŸ€ πŸŽ‚

So far in his life, he would always quit cooperating the second before the leadline class starts. Refuse to hold the reins, all the sudden he'd be hungry, tired, doesn't actually like horses anymore, you name the excuse πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

So this time I tried to be smart and bribed him with a toy. Told him if he holds the reins properly the entire class, he will get a bulldozer toy.
I was amazed at how well this trick worked, he was focused, steered, stopped, backed and rode Ziva forward like a big kid. So proud of him for doing all those things in front of a crowd 😍

The judge asked him questions and for a fist bump. He looked down at his hands back and forth, remembering how he'd only get a toy if he holds the reins for the whole class πŸ˜‚ He didn't say anything, but his look to the judge was basically like "sorry ma'am, I really can't let go of these reins".

But I wasn't prepared for what came next - we were just waiting in the lineup and all the sudden Ziva shook because she was itchy. And Jackson just about fell off, but our velcro bands did their job and kept him on. This was the closest he's ever come to falling off, and Ziva is quite a bit bigger than his miniature horse Daisy.
So with a bright red head and some tears, he needed some hugs from Mama. Thanks to Dani Wilson he got back on for a picture and then got his toy and forgot all about it πŸ₯³πŸ˜…

And yes, the next day in the leadline class Ziva shook again πŸ’€πŸ’€ But he wasn't phased that time

This πŸ‘Œ All day long.

πŸ’›I’m Going to Let Your Child Struggle πŸ’›

When your child comes for lessons with me, I’m going to let them struggle sometimes.

They may have never fastened a buckle on a piece of tack. A saddle might be heavy and awkward. Their lead rope may be a tangled mess. And something that would take me ten seconds might take them five minutes.

I’m not going to immediately step in and do it for them. *Unless its a safety issue.*

Because someday, I want your child to walk into the barn, catch their own horse, tack up, and head out feeling completely confident in their own abilities.

Why?

Because they’re learning that they can do hard things.

So yes, I’ll help when something is beyond a child's physical ability. I’ll encourage, demonstrate, and keep them safe.

But when they *can* do it? I’m going to give them the time to fumble with the buckle. Untangle the rope. Try again. And figure it out.

Parents, I know watching that can be hard. You’ll want to jump in and make it easier.

But sometimes the greatest gift we can give a child is not making the hard thing easier.

It’s standing beside them long enough for them to discover:

β€œI can do this myself.”
