Dear G14s:
We’ve got a lot of new members in our community, so we here at Gate 14 thought we could all use a little back-to-school refresher on what this ridiculous place is all about. This month, we’ll be hosting a month-long attendance challenge that will explore the four main pillars that underpin our approach to the world.
Week one will focus all on building strength, both mental and physical. Week two will cover aerobic, anaerobic, and metabolic conditioning. Week three will explore many of the ways we create a bridge between physical movement and the cultural touchstones that have shaped our outlook, from Black Flag to Samuel Beckett. And during our fourth week, we’ll infuse our benchmarks with a sense of community that should remind all our G14s exactly how we’re built a bit different than everyone else.
We’ll bolster this month of “education” with another installment of our Speakeasy Series hosted this time by our resident coach/professor Alfred Brown. On Thursday September 17th at 7pm, he’ll be guiding everyone through the finer points of “not knowing,” and how practicing it can bloom everyday life into endless creative growth. Check out this reading assignment to prepare for what will be a strange night, and make sure to sign-up for free in the events tab of the app.
The winner of the attendance challenge will walk away with a healthy, delicious prize, so make sure to fill your name in and keep a tally of your days in the gym on the poster board in the foyer. It can be easy to let your physical regimen revert to brainless automaton-ism, going blindly through the motions of everyday. We offer this month as a way for our new members to lean deeply into what G14 is all about, and for our veterans to remind themselves how special this thing is that we’re all building.
