POOL OWNERS: If your pool is equipped with automatic freeze protection, there are still a few things you may want to consider. Because you will want some amount of water moving through every pipe, if possible, crack your vacuum suction line and any of your water features that aren’t typically running if they are not on a dedicated pump that will come on automatically. The pool/ spa suction and return valves should automatically switch periodically to keep both sides moving if they are equipped with actuators. If you have an in-floor cleaner and a spa on the same pump, it is important to crack that valve and lock it in that position or the spa will likely drain. Open bypass valves at least slightly. If all valves are manual, open the spa suction valve slightly. Not enough to drain it but enough to get some water moving. Look at your water features. Go ahead and get them running to make sure you aren’t scrambling in 20 degree weather. If you have manual controls or timeclocks with no freeze protection, remove timer clips, and run pump non stop. Do not turn your pool off. If power is lost and no backup generator is available, remove plugs from heater, chiller, all pumps, and filter. Also, remove the pump lids as it will help the system drain. Then, say a little prayer. 01/22/2026
