"One thing I've learned through this season of life is how quickly things can change."

When Kristin Castro found herself facing the possibility of losing stability for her family and struggling to keep her business afloat, help arrived through an unexpected connection. Her sister, who volunteers with The Salvation Army in Montana, reached out through the Salvation Army network. Within two days, Kristin was connected with Lisa and welcomed into The Salvation Army East County Red Shield Community Center's Pathway of Hope program in San Diego.

"At that point, I was overwhelmed emotionally, financially, and mentally," Kristin shared. "But what impacted me most wasn't only the financial assistance. It was the encouragement, compassion, guidance, and faith."

Through regular meetings, goal setting, budgeting support, and constant encouragement, Kristin found the structure and support she needed to keep moving forward.

Today, her business continues to grow, and she is building a stronger future for her family.

"Having someone believe in you, encourage you, and help guide you forward during difficult seasons can make all the difference."

Jimmy first came to The Salvation Army while applying for nearby veteran housing, after hearing we could help with groceries and other support. That first box of food opened the door to so much more—care, compassion and the resources he needed to get back on his feet. Today, Jimmy’s journey is a reminder of how a simple act of kindness can change everything.

The first two weeks of Day Camp at the EC Red Shield have been filled with smiles, laughter, new friendships, exciting games, and so many unforgettable memories! ☀️💙

We’re taking a little break this week, but we can’t wait to welcome all of our campers back for two more weeks of adventure, fun, and making even more amazing memories together! See you soon! 🎉🙌
