1. INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION

Every player has different strengths and weaknesses and requires a unique approach to improving. To start, each player is assessed to determine the best course to reach their potential. From there, players are constantly monitored via a variety of techniques to ensure they are moving in the right direction. Whether it be one on one or a small group, each player is trained according to their unique needs.

2. PROPER TRAINING TECHNIQUES

Owner Jimmy Sheppard has spent years researching and learning about proper mechanics and how to improve them. Baseball is filled with theories and hard held beliefs that simply aren't true. Elite Diamond Performance' motto is "train smarter" because training the correct way is paramount to improving your skills.

3. EDUCATION

Elite Diamond Performance is centered around teaching players, parents, coaches and instructors about the game. From learning proper mechanics to learning how to attract attention from scouts and coaches, Elite Diamond Performance is the place to go.

Where do the best hitters in the world hit the ball?

So many hitters are engrained that they should hit everything middle/oppo, and are terrified of pulling the ball. The best hitters in the world use the whole field but hit most of their balls to the pull side. Why?

Good hitters are looking to do damage, and the area of the field where hitters can hit the ball the hardest is to the pull side, and harder hit balls tend to have a better rate of success.

Does this mean every hitter should try and yank everything? Absolutely not. Approach is going to vary wildly from hitter to hitter. However, whatever the approach, make sure that you still have the ability to pull the ball and do damage. Far too many hitters limit their hitting potential by only using the middle and opposite field.

How change happens vs. how we think or expect it to happen. (A chart that we show hitters, especially as we enter another off-season)

The process of improvement isn’t usually a smooth ride for anyone. In order to get better, there is usually an inevitable period of feeling uncomfortable and struggle as your body figures new movement out. However, in order to improve, this is a necessity.

The best hitters we have ever worked with are the ones who understand the process and understand that there are days when you feel like the best hitter on the planet and days that you don’t. However, those struggles often time are what help hitters learn and in the long run, become better.

There is certainly more that goes into getting hitters better than data, but if you don’t measure, you never know if what you are doing is working.

Data is what tells us as coaches if what we are doing with a player is working or it isn’t. It speeds up the process of improvement. It holds coaches and players accountable.

If you want to truly know if you are improving, you have to measure.

People will often ask us: “If you could only talk about one thing in the swing, what would it be?” The answer: Bat path.

There is a lot that goes into making great hitters great, but from a mechanical standpoint they all get on plane early and stay on plane for a long time.
