Dear softball family,
This could be any of us at any given time. When tragedy strikes we are very seldom fully prepared. You just pray that you have the support and love of community when it strikes. It comes when we least expect it and leaves lasting hurt. Tonight one of our own is hurting. The dad of our Quinn "Koufie" Whitaker is in a fight for his life. Brad has been battling liver and kidney failure for several months and is in need of a life-saving transplant for both. His prognosis is bleak without it. We believe in the power of prayer and ask that you pray for this precious family. Brad is an amazing dad who is always present for his girls. I know he is struggling with being away from them for so long!
Because of his condition, Brad has been unable to work for more than 2 months. His family will soon begin to feel the extreme toll of financial loss. And his journey is nowhere near over. When he receives the transplant he will have to continue his medical stay. The medical team will require that Brad and a family member stay in or near Atlanta for up to 3 months to stay close to the hospital, so that he can attend the required 3-4 follow up appointments each week to monitor his recovery and ensure the transplant success. None of the housing, transportation, meals and other expenses are covered by insurance. Creating a very stressful situation.
Our Mystics are hosting a "Bat Raffle" to help raise funds for this wonderful family. They have fought quietly for a long time and have asked for nothing. But the Lord tells us that we should take care of our neighbor. We don't feel like money should be something you should have to worry about when you're fighting for your life or the life of your loved one. So this is our way of contributing to this sweet family.
