Week 3 of A Better Beginning is in the books! 💪

This crew has really started to pick it up, and you can see the fundamentals beginning to click.

Over the first three weeks, we’ve worked through snap downs, arm drags, double legs, down blocking, sprawling, stand ups, and even added a breakdown to a half. They’re starting to understand how all these fundamentals connect, and it’s been awesome watching the progress.

We’ve got 5 weeks left, and we’re excited to see where this crew ends up after the full 8 weeks!

ROAD TO JOURNEYMAN I — THIS WEEKEND 🔥

Our Fall Peak Performance Series continues September 18–20 with three days and five hard, focused training sessions designed to get wrestlers ready for the season ahead.

We’re kicking things off Friday night with Adam Hall, Head Coach at Utah Valley University and 2x NCAA All-American. Coach Hall brings an incredible amount of experience as both a competitor and coach, and we’re excited to have him back in the Broad Axe room.

You do not need to be competing at Journeyman or Super 32 to attend. If you’re looking for a high-level weekend of wrestling and want to sharpen things up heading into the season, this camp is for you.

🥈 WATERWAY DUALS RUNNER-UP!

What an incredible weekend for our girls.

Our Broad Axe / Team Renegade Girls team finished 7-1 overall, taking 2nd place at the Waterway Duals after an outstanding weekend of wrestling.

Every single girl on this team wrestled her butt off. The effort, toughness, and fight they showed all weekend was exactly what you want to see as a coach. We came up just two points short in an incredibly tight final, but I couldn’t have been happier with the way this group competed.

This weekend also wouldn’t have been possible without our friends at Team Renegade and Coach Dave Hoffman.

Dave is a good friend of mine and someone I’ve looked up to for a long time. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as both a coach and a person, so getting the opportunity to coach alongside him this weekend was pretty special.

Having Dave’s daughter and several of his athletes join our girls and being able to combine our efforts to put together this Broad Axe / Team Renegade team was awesome. Even better was watching the girls come together, compete for each other, and put together a 7-1 weekend against some really tough competition.

The girls did the work. They battled for every point, supported each other, and represented both programs incredibly well.

Thank you, Dave, for trusting us with your athletes and for coaching side by side with us all weekend. It was an honor.

And to all of our girls, be proud of this one. 🥈

We didn’t leave with the championship we wanted, but this group showed exactly what they’re capable of.

What a weekend at the Waterway Duals.

I couldn’t be more proud of the way our Broad Axe kids competed. Across every team, our wrestlers battled their butts off against some really tough competition and represented our club the right way.

⚔️ High School Gold: 6-2
⚔️ High School Green: 5-3 while giving up 3 forfeits
⚔️ Middle School: 6-2 and 7th overall
⚔️ Elementary: 6-2 and 7th overall
⚔️ Girls: 7-1 and 2nd overall

Our girls especially showed out this weekend, dropping an incredibly tight final by just two points. An unfortunate injury on Saturday changed the complexion of the tournament for them, but that’s part of sports. We’ll give this group the recognition they deserve in a separate post because they had an awesome weekend.

Were these exactly the results we came for? No.

But they were a pretty good indication of where we are right now, how far we’ve come, and where we need to get to next.

More importantly, we came home with a TON of valuable data. We saw what’s working. We saw where we’re getting exposed. We saw the little things that are separating us from the level we’re trying to reach.

Now we get to put that information to work.

I also want to give a huge thank you to our coaches who gave their time and energy to these kids all weekend: Jared, Kyle, Francisco, John, Coffin, Morris, Garcia, Hillary, and Dave. Weekends like this are a massive undertaking, and I’m incredibly grateful to have such a great group of people investing in our wrestlers.

And most of all, I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with so many awesome wrestlers and families who continue to trust what we’re building at Broad Axe. Weekends like this make me even more excited about where this club is headed.

We’re proud of the progress, but we’re not satisfied.

🎲 **CRAFT TAVERN CASINO NIGHT** 🎲  
In support of Broad Axe Wrestling Academy

Join us for great food, cold drinks, exciting games, and a night that will help build stronger futures for our wrestlers!

Every ticket helps Broad Axe provide sponsored memberships, camps, clinics, tournament fees, and travel and coaching support for athletes competing nationally and internationally. It also helps us prepare for the larger facility our growing wrestling community needs.

We’re aiming for 200 guests, so grab your tickets and bring some friends for an unforgettable night!

🔥 WEEK 2 COMPLETE! 🔥

The Better Beginning program continues to be off to a hot start!

Two weeks in, and this group is already making some serious progress. This week we worked on snap downs, go-behinds, double legs, down blocks, and sprawling — and tonight we even added our first breakdown and pinning combination to the mix! 🤼‍♂️

Labor Day weekend Camp was a success! This crew crushed it this weekend, and made huge gains heading into competition. We’ll be back in two weeks for our Road to Journeyman series. We only have 8 spots left for that camp, you can register online at our website!
