To say that we are overwhelmed by the support of yesterday’s event is an understatement. We ended up with 200 registered participants and raised almost $9,000 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. We had firefighters from Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, New Brockton, and Kinsey Fire Departments (and there may be others that we missed).

Each year, this event continues to grow and as it does, so do we. This year we had a planning committee that was immensely helpful. Jamie Wilkerson, Elliott Glover, and Preston Banister, thank you for all your help with making this our best year yet. We’re also super thankful to our volunteers who did way more than they signed up for, and helped us to get set up in record time despite being delayed by the storm.

This event has become a large part of our family culture. Our 14 year old daughter secured the Zaxbys sandwiches and many of our sponsorships, and all of our kids worked together to laminate 403 full page badges, assemble the lanyards, and fill the packets. We appreciate your patience with them at check-in and the kindness that you showed them. Our dream has always been for this to be a family event and we are grateful for how you’ve embraced our family in the process.

Thank you all for continuing to support the climb, and for helping to honor these very deserving heroes each year. Their legacy will always shine bright in the Wiregrass. 🇺🇸

Please continue to tag the page and share any photos that you may have gotten at the event in the comments below.

Alabama weather always keeps us on our toes! We’re keeping a close eye on it, and praying that it cooperates. The stairs at Rip Hewes are concrete so we can still climb/walk in rain, but we’re hoping it passes quickly.

We are incredibly grateful to Zaxbys Dothan for generously donating sandwiches for our participants AND volunteers at tonight’s Wiregrass 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb & Walk! ❤️🤍💙

After an evening of climbing, walking, and rucking in honor of our fallen first responders, everyone will be able to enjoy a sandwich once they’ve finished.

We are continually amazed by the support this community has shown for this event. Thank you, Zaxby’s, for stepping up to take care of the people who are coming together tonight to remember and honor our heroes.

THERE IS STILL TIME TO SIGN UP AT THE EVENT TODAY BETWEEN 4:50-5:50PM!

ON-SITE REGISTRATION
Know someone who still wants to participate? In-person registration will be available at the stadium from 4:50–5:50 PM. Credit card or cash accepted.

EVENT DAY — SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12
Rip Hewes Stadium
1701 Stadium St, Dothan, AL 36301

Packet Pickup & Registration: 4:50–5:50 PM
Memorial Ceremony: 6:00 PM

* Please arrive early and be seated before 6:00 PM. Registration and packet pickup will pause during the approximately 20-minute Memorial Ceremony so our volunteers can participate. The climb and walk/ruck will begin immediately afterward.

* Need help? Look for a volunteer in a turquoise shirt.

CLIMB & WALK ROUTES
- Stair Climb: The route will be marked and volunteers will help direct you. To complete the equivalent of 110 stories:
Counting UPS + DOWNS: 1.5 laps — home, visitor, home
Counting UPS only: 3 full laps — home + visitor = 1 lap

- Walk/Ruck: Complete 12 laps around the field and beneath the bleachers.

You’ll receive a lanyard with a lap tracker for either route.

* You do NOT have to complete the full climb or walk. This is not a race or competition. Do as much as you are able in honor of the first responder whose badge you carry.
* If you need to rest, please step into the stands and keep the stairs and routes clear.

WHEN YOU FINISH
When you finish—or have gone as far as you are able—ring the bell and say the name of the first responder you climbed or walked in honor of.

Then grab a snack, take a photo with one of our event signs, and celebrate what you accomplished!

We’d love to see photos of your teams and experience. Share them using .

GEAR, WATER & SAFETY
* First responders are welcome to participate in turnouts or other gear. Other participants may wear a weighted vest or backpack if desired.
* We’ll have four water stations throughout the stadium, bottled water, post-event snacks, and medical personnel on-site. Please stay hydrated and be courteous to others on the route.

ONE FINAL REMINDER
This is not a race. There is no prize for finishing first and no requirement to complete all 110 stories or 12 laps.

Take your time. Look at the Honor Badge you are carrying. Remember their name—and remember why you are there.

PACKET PICKUP & REGISTRATION INFO BELOW

25 years ago today, our nation was changed forever. It’s difficult to comprehend how an act of such unimaginable evil could also bring to light so much courage, sacrifice, unity, and goodness in ordinary people.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger when every instinct told others to run away. We remember those whose final moments were spent helping, protecting, comforting, and saving people they had never met.

We invite you to take some time today to remember.
Talk to your children and families about September 11th. Watch one of the many incredible documentaries that preserve the stories of that day. After you pick up your packet and receive your honor badges, learn about the fallen first responder(s) you will carry with you tomorrow. Read their story. Look at their photograph. Learn who they were.

Tomorrow will be difficult. It will be warm. Your muscles will ache. There will be moments when you’ll want to stop. And then you’ll look at the face on the badge you’re carrying. You’ll say their name. And you’ll take another step. Because tomorrow isn’t about how fast we climb or how far we walk. It’s about WHY we do it.

We want to thank everyone that has already signed up for this year's climb or walk. We closed out the night at 147 participants, more than we've ever had join us. If you missed the online cutoff, you can register in person at either Friday packet pickup or at the stadium before the event.

If you are able to pick up your packet on Friday, we strongly encourage you to do so. Event day is always busy, and early pickup makes things much easier for both participants and our volunteers.

One of the best reasons to pick up your packet early is that your Honor Badge(s) will be inside. Having your badge ahead of time gives you the opportunity to look up the first responder you will be honoring and learn a little about their life and story before Saturday. We have always found this to be one of the most meaningful parts of the experience.
