According to an article in the Huffington Post nearly half of the adults in Detroit, Michigan are functionally illiterate. Now that statistic increases in the 48234 zip code due to the lack of population and amount of low-income families. There are approximately 27,500 adults in this area. Therefore, around 13,750 adults are functionally illiterate in the community we serve. It goes even further t
o say that at least one parent of a child in this area is unable to assist their child with reading and writing. Additionally, more than half of the families we serve are single mothers with more than one child. We do not want the children of this generation and of these parents to follow in these footsteps. That is why we want to educate and make the children and families in this area our main priority. By providing free tutoring services for children will allow the parent(s) to attend our skill building and life skills classes and increase their knowledge of business, finance, and prepping their children for College. In addition, our professional mentors provide a positive role model for the young boys and girls in this community. We are teaching them about being an open, honest and driven person. We provide them with the tools to become productive members of society and future leaders. We are truly concerned with the families and youth of this community. You help will assist with their growth tremendously and help mold future leaders.
