Exciting changes are on the horizon, including a big studio refresh and moving everything into one space! Below is our rough schedule for these changes, please read carefully!

- Our last yoga class (minus prenatal yoga) will be Sunday, July 26th
- Starting July 27th the Root Studio will be temporarily closed for some updates/renovations. This means we will not be able to have boxing or rowing classes during that time.
- Our last class in the Rise studio (forever!) will be Saturday, August 1st.
- After our last class in the Rise studio, we will be bringing our flooring and equipment down to the Root studio.
- We will be offering limited outdoor classes from 8/3-8/7 (more info for those to come!)
- We will hopefully be back to business as usual on Saturday 8/8, with an updated schedule (we’ll share this when it’s ready and it will still be packed to the brim, don’t worry) 😎
- Timeline is subject to change but we’re doing everything we can to make this change smooth and seamless! We will communicate any changes as they arise.
- Again, more information will come as we are locking everything in. Please be patient and trust that we’re doing a lot behind the scenes and will share everything as it’s ready.
- A lot of you have asked how you can help and as of right now I don’t have an answer for you! Just know how much I appreciate you asking and I will let you know if we end up needing some extra strong hands.

Thank you all!

I think we’ve lost the plot on what fitness means and why it’s a worthy endeavor.

I would never judge anyone for wanting to lose weight (and I want to acknowledge that anti-fat bias is very real + harmful), but I hope your fitness goals can be bigger than obtaining a smaller body.

Diet culture is particularly loud right now. Being anti-diet culture means looking at what fitness can add to your life outside of aesthetics and chasing that.

If you want to see the world, if you want to show up for your community, if you want to grow a garden, play with your dog/kids/grandkids, if you want to protest, if you want to go on a picnic, if you want to dance the night away, if you want to do anything at all, fitness is going to help you do those things and also allow you to feel better while doing them. I urge you to not take it for granted.

I want you to do big things with your one wild and precious life, and building fitness in the gym is how you’re going to get there, regardless of if it changes your appearance or not. On the other side of diet culture there is a great big life waiting to be lived. You cannot have a big life if you are actively trying to shrink yourself. You cannot have a big life if you are actively trying to take up less space.

Lift the weights, take up space, do big things.

I apologize in advance for any errors in this list or studios that have been left out. While the Des Moines yoga scene is iffy there are still wonderful teachers out there and a lot of opportunities to practice.

If you’re a yoga teacher in Des Moines feel free to comment below and tell us where to practice with you!

I know I don’t owe anyone any explanations for the direction that I’ve chosen to take my business, but I do hope this provides some clarity on the yoga situation in Des Moines and also what it’s like to be a small business owner. IYKYK and if you don’t, I hope this sheds some light.

It’s pride and this bisexual is tired.

I regularly find myself reflecting on what I want to share on social media and why. Recently, I’ve found myself reading statements of LGBTQ+ support from other businesses and actually getting annoyed. I’m sick of the virtue signaling. I’m sick of the same posts going around naming the same 7 businesses over and over as allies while simultaneously doing nothing to recognize businesses that are actually owned by q***r folks. I’m sick of the social media performative activism. It’s the exact same language copy + pasted again and again, with no proof that they’ve ever done anything to back their words up with tangible support. If you’ve only ever mentioned or thought of q***r and trans people during June then please just save your breath. I’m tired. We’re all tired.

I do think it’s important to be clear and upfront about what your values are. But I hope that I have built a business where my values come across not through empty words on a post but through the actual actions that I take day in and day out as both a business owner and a regular human being existing in the world.

If you are q***r, I hope this month is one of joy and rest. I hope this month is one of connection and feeling at peace in your daily life. I hope it’s one of safety. I hope you find spaces that were created with you specifically in mind, not as an afterthought. You deserve more than a blanket “love is love” statement made once a year. You deserve the whole damn world.

I love you.

Yes, you can still workout during pregnancy!

Outside of prenatal yoga, we don’t have any specific fitness classes for pregnancy (currently 👀), but that’s doesn’t mean the other classes we offer are not pregnancy-friendly. We’ve had countless women participate in our classes (strength classes in particular) all the way up to the week they give birth.

3 of our trainers have prenatal fitness certifications and all of our trainers are knowledgeable on how to adjust or modify any and all exercises throughout pregnancy.

Every pregnancy is different and please consult your doctor before jumping into a new exercise routine, but general guidance says that it is safe to continue or start working out during pregnancy. Your body and mind will thank you and so will your baby. After all, birthing is athletic. Carrying babies requires strength. Chasing after toddlers requires endurance. Parenthood is a sport. You can start preparing for that now!

Special shout-out to the COUNTLESS new parents and soon-to-be parents at Rooted. There have been a lot of y’all lately and it warms my heart to see 💖
