Congratulations to our newest SDI Rescue Divers!

What a great weekend of diving! Our newest SDI Rescue Divers, Hope, Kate, Jack, and Steve spent the weekend practicing everything from search patterns and diver recovery to responding to panicked divers...and we had a lot of fun doing it!

A special thank you to our wonderful instructor Annelise for an action packed class, and superstar DMs Craig, Jed, and Brandon for volunteering their time (and themselves!) to give our students some very realistic divers to rescue. 😎

Our rescue divers also got to practice their search patterns looking for Wilson, our homemade “missing diver” that we hide underwater for students to locate and recover. And because not EVERYTHING has to be serious, they finished off the weekend with a fun dive and some underwater dancing with hooded nudis (nudibranchs for those that aren't familiar with the diver lingo)!

Rescue Diver is one of the classes that can literally change the way you dive. You start paying more attention to what’s happening around you, thinking ahead, and learning how to help when another diver needs it.

Congratulations again to our newest SDI Rescue Divers! You all did an awesome job this weekend! 👏

🧰 WHAT’S IN YOUR SAVE-A-DIVE KIT?

You’ve got your gear packed, your cylinders are full, and you made it to the dive site. And then…

A fin strap breaks (hopefully not if you have those awesome spring straps!). An O-ring blows. Your mask strap decides today is the day it’s going to retire. And because the ocean has a sense of humor, the one spare part you DON'T bring will probably be the one you NEED.
We all know this is where a good Save-a-Dive Kit earns its keep!

A few things our staff likes to have on hand:

Spare mask & fin straps
O-rings in a few common sizes
Basic scuba multi-tool / small adjustable wrench
Small screwdrivers & Allen keys
Mask defog
Zipper wax / lubricant
Spare batteries for appropriate dive gear
Bolt snaps, double-enders & zip ties
Bungee / shock cord
Spare mouthpiece + mouthpiece ties
A few basic first-aid items
Spare dive computer strap or bungee
A spare hose or two
Aaand a little spindle or two for your SPG

A Save-a-Dive Kit doesn’t have to be huge. A small box or pouch with a few carefully chosen spares can be the difference between “dive’s cancelled” and “give me five minutes.”

These are just a few things from an endless list if you really want to go for broke! What are some gems that you like to pack in your kit that has saved your dive?

Need to build or restock yours? Stop by Eight before your next dive and we can help!

Sometimes a dive turns into something much bigger!

What started as a dive in Lake Washington for Travis and Shahein took an unexpected turn when they came across a large number of dead fish beneath the I-90 light rail tracks.

They reported what they found, and that discovery has since led to an ongoing investigation involving Sound Transit and fisheries managers. According to The Seattle Times, approximately 2,000 fish were found dead, including federally protected Chinook salmon, and investigators are looking into whether underwater anode cables carrying a low-level electrical current may have played a role.

We’re pretty proud to have both of these guys as part of our dive community. But more importantly, they were simply two divers who noticed something that wasn’t right and spoke up.

It’s a great reminder that as divers, we get a view of our local waters that most people never see. And sometimes, paying attention to what’s down there really matters.

Nice work, Travis and Shahein. 🤿

See something unusual underwater? Don’t just swim past it.

Congratulations to the PNW’s newest Divemaster, Shahein! 🤿🎉

Shahein took a bit of a different road to becoming a DM. He spent years building his diving experience and working his way through GUE training before eventually deciding to step into the Divemaster role, so he came into the program with an already impressive foundation of skills and experience!

Throughout his DM training, what really stood out to us was how well he translated that experience into working with other divers. He’s approachable, patient, and has a great ability to meet students where they are, helping them refine both new and previously learned skills while keeping the experience positive and fun!

Becoming a Divemaster isn’t just about being a good diver, it’s about learning how to lead, mentor, support, and be someone other divers can count on both in AND out of the water!

We at Eight are so happy to see Shahein add Divemaster to his diving creds and even happier to have another solid diver stepping into a leadership role in our PNW community!

Congratulations, Shahein! Welcome to the professional side of diving!

And yes… we’re talking LUMPSUCKERS! 💚👀

Join us for a fun shop dive at Redondo and let’s see what we can find. There's tons of tiny critters tucked into the rocks and "stuff" and you never know what may decide to cruise by, which is half the fun!

Underwater Pumpkin Carving Dive and Contest!

Eight Diving and Jade Scuba Adventures are diving into Halloween together! 👻🤿

Join us at Les Davis on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for a fin-tastic day of underwater pumpkin carving. Because nothing says “Happy Halloween” quite like getting your gourd on… underwater! 🎃🫧

Not a diver? No problem! Stay topside and bring a pumpkin to carve on shore. We’ll have some Halloween fun for everyone whether you have gills or not!

🎃 Dive Details
Pre-registration and waiver completion are required.

No dive knives! They aren’t suitable for pumpkin carving, and nobody wants to accidentally carve their gear, too. 😬

Bring your own pumpkin, pumpkin-carving tools, and extra lead (approximately 4–8 lbs, depending on pumpkin size).

Land Lubbers: All pumpkins, carving supplies, and dive gear will be provided.

You may pre-draw or etch your design on your pumpkin, but all carving must take place underwater.

One-tank dive for pumpkin carving, with an optional second dive afterward.

🏆 Shore-Side Showdown
Whether you carve underwater or on shore, there will be bragging rights on the line!

The shore crew will help determine the best pumpkin, so bring your creativity, your carving skills, and your best Halloween spirit! 🎃👻

More details and registration information coming soon.
