I help adults ages 35 to 105 get strong and stay strong

The September 2026 Movement Snack Spotlight is…

Twist, Somersault, and Roll.

This is a good way to remember to move in all directions.

You can sit in your chair and twist.
You can stand up and twist.
You can get down on the ground and do a somersault.
You can roll on your bed,
or roll down a grassy hill.

Recognizing it is Fall Prevention Month, you can use a twist and roll to fall more safely.

What other ideas can you come up with?

Every month, I have a new movement snack suggestion for you. You can do just the current one or mix and match your favorites.

You can read the Movement Snack Spotlight article on my website to catch all the monthly snacks.

Fall prevention is important, but it isn’t everything. I don’t know anyone who has never fallen.

This Fall Prevention, Protection, and Recovery Class will address protection and recovery in addition to prevention so that you are better prepared.

Each hour-long class will open with discussion on the topic of the day, and a warmup. Then, class will have a block devoted to balance and skill drills, a block for strength building exercises, and a block for techniques for falling more safely. We will wrap up with gentle stretches, more discussion, handouts, and homework.

At the end of the series, you will have all the skills and techniques we have practiced, useful handouts, and two custom workouts that you can use to continue to build strength.

Tuesdays 1:00–2:00 p.m.
September 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29, 2026

This topic is so important! Thank you Erin Eleu for this Q&A!

What if we learned how to fall?

We spend a lot of time talking about preventing falls. But falls can still happen.

What if, alongside building strength, balance, and confidence, we also gave people opportunities to learn skills that could help them navigate a fall—and build confidence from the ground up?

Today's newsletter is a Q&A, with Bryan DePhilip of Ukemi Health Partners about learning to fall, building confidence, and rethinking how we approach fall resilience.

It's about moving beyond fear and asking a different question: What skills might help people feel more prepared and capable?

This client wanted gloves to protect her hands from the texture on the trap bar, but she found lifting gloves to be uncomfortable. Quilting gloves for the win!

Surprise! Lilies! We saw the Naked Ladies / Surprise Lilies / Resurrection Lilies along Walnut Creek Trail. The storms we had the last few days meant that the dirt trail was too muddy and some of the lilies had been knocked down, but we persevered!

Mark your calendar with these upcoming dates for Soft Trail Stroll!

The free Soft Trail Stroll series gives people a simple way to become more active. The events are for people of all ages (and dogs on leashes)—anyone who fancies a stroll!

The second purpose is to increase appreciation of our local soft trails. What is a soft trail? Simply, it is an unpaved trail. Its surface may be dirt, grass, or crushed rock/gravel.

Most walks are 1.5 to 2.5 miles long. All go at a “stroll” pace. When the trails are muddy, we still stroll—we just stick to pavement.

Details, future dates, and the weather policy for Soft Trail Stroll are all on my website.
