Denver Historical Fencing Academy

Last week was DHFA's annual SWORD CAMP! We increased our usual mile-high elevation to over 9,000 feet near Blackhawk, Colorado, to spar with a beautiful mountain backdrop! We sparred with mixed weapons, ate delicious food, and played Capture the Flag in a very hilly aspen grove!

A proper thrust can land on your opponent while also controlling their blade - thereby keeping you safe! In one move, you've successfully followed the three most important fencing rules:
1. Don't get hit
2. Don't f*cking get hit
3. Hit them!

Parry... then riposte! A good parry-riposte is bread and butter for fencers, which is why we always execute it perfectly! 🤭

..ok, maybe not always, but practice makes perfect! ⚔️

Celebrating ✨️The Classics✨️ every Saturday at DHFA by sparring rapier, longsword, and saber ⚔️

Last weekend, DHFA sent a group of fencers (a flock of feders? A storm of swords?) to Philadelphia to compete in the annual Revolution Rumble. Congratulations to for taking 2nd in Longsword Tier C and to , Brady Klein, and Trevor Jones for taking 3rd in Longsword Team Relay!

Shenanigans!

There's a lesson in here, even though it looks (and is) a whole bunch of fun. How do you spar with unbalanced weapons? What advantage does a rondel have when going up against a pike (with a chicken)? How can you exploit the trickiness of two longswords against a messer and buckler?

Denver Historical Fencing Academy practices modern training with historical weapons, including longsword, saber, and rapier. Join us to learn and participate in the fencing schools of the renaissance and medieval periods as they were intended, all while in a safe, controlled environment.
We believe that everyone deserves to fence, and deserves the journey of self discovery that fencing gives you. The best way to take up that journey is with a diverse group of people who support you - and are willing to hit you with swords.

We love our friends at Atlanta Historical Fencing Academy so much, we sent almost 20 fencers from Colorado out for SERFO 2026! We had a great time sparring with some of the best fencers in the US. And even when we weren't fencing with steel, we were still fencing ⚔️

Congratulations to our fencers who competed in the SpringSteel tournament this weekend! DHFA fencers represented Denver in San Diego with longswords and sabers ⚔️ All our fencers did incredibly well!
