The GrowHaus
The mission of The GrowHaus is to cultivate community-driven food justice through education and food access. Visit www.thegrowhaus.org to learn more.
We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. We are successful when the youth, families, and communities we work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.
The GrowHaus’s Seed2Seed program invites teens from our home communities of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea to learn about food justice, cooking and nutrition, and community advocacy.
This week, the group learned to prepare “memelas,” a traditional, well-loved, and popular dish from Puebla, Mexico. Ynes, our guest cook, thoughtfully guided the teens through each step, including seasoning the meat, preparing the dough, and cooking the ingredients for a spicy salsa verde. The teens especially enjoyed using the tool to flatten the dough known as “tortillera”. By the end of the session, teens had mastered the technique and shared the meal they prepared together!
Days like this help our Seed2Seed teens connect with their roots, bond with one another, and build a lifelong foundation of leadership and teamwork skills.

At The GrowHaus, we are proud to partner with Healthy Food for Denver’s Kids (HFDK) to provide essential resources to families in Denver. With HFDK funding, The GrowHaus has supported tens of thousands of families with children across Denver through biweekly food boxes featuring 25 pounds of nutrient-dense, fresh fruits and vegetables to fuel children's healthy development. To ensure access, The GrowHaus strategically partners with Denver Public Library branches and other community organizations to create convenient pick-up points in food-insecure neighborhoods throughout the city.
HFDK’s commitment to food equity ensures that programs like ours can serve more than 90,000 families who rely on healthy food solutions every year. Together, we’re building a Denver where every child has the nourishment they need to thrive!

We are halfway through our beloved, multi-generational summer program, Abejitas (Little Bees)! Every Wednesday, about 30 families gather in a neighborhood park for wellness, nutrition, movement, and creative activities that instill appreciation for healthy eating and the natural world. With guidance from our team of Promotoras (Community Health Specialists), young children (ages 3-10) and their caregivers build a foundation of healthy habits that they can replicate at home.
Many families who participate in Abejitas also take part in our fresh program! Abejitas helps families learn creative ways to prepare fresh fruits and vegetables in kid-approved ways that improve children's nutrition. This year, The GrowHaus sent families home with "welcome kits" that included kid-safe knives, cutting boards, and other age-appropriate cooking tools to help them integrate the skills they learned at Abejitas into everyday life.
Last year, one caregiver shared, "My children are excited for Abejitas every year, anxiously awaiting the program, ready to have fun and learn new things with other children.” We are honored to support our youngest neighbors in launching lifelong food education and wellness journeys at Abejitas.
We are three weeks into our summer teen program, Seed2Seed, with an amazing group of 15 teen participants and 3 paid teen facilitators, who are past participants taking the next step in their leadership journeys. Throughout Seed2Seed, local teens learn about food justice and start building healthy habits and leadership skills. They explore our food system, environmental justice issues, and develop strategies for personal and community wellness. Cooking and nutrition are at the heart of the program, along with projects, volunteering, group discussions, and visits to community organizations. We're honored to support the next generation through Seed2Seed, and can't wait to continue watching this group's leadership styles and personal development shine.

We are humbled and grateful for the outpouring of community support for the Mercadito Expansion Campaign, with more than 100 people making a donation.
We’re thrilled to share that we reached our $20,000 Mercadito Expansion Project goal yesterday!!!! Your generous donations helped us unlock a $20,000 match, meaning together, we raised $40,000 to support The Mercadito and welcome an additional 200 households this summer.
If you missed adding your support to the expansion campaign, it's NOT TOO LATE to support fresh food access this summer. All donations TODAY (until midnight) wiil go directly towards purchasing kid-friendly items for youth snack boxes, such as string cheese, peanut butter, whole-wheat bread, low-sugar granola bars, baby carrots, applesauce, and yogurt, all of which support children’s nutrition and development.
A $50 donation covers the cost of one snack box for your neighbor. Take action today for children's nutrition at the link in our bio.
TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO SUPPORT THE MERCADITO EXPANSION PROJECT.
School's been out for an entire month. That means up to 40 missed school breakfasts and lunches for school-aged children.
The Mercadito is making a real difference for families with children, sending each household home with 20-25 pounds of fresh, nutrient-dense food to support healthy development and provide energy for summer fun, all at no cost to families. Children select fresh produce alongside their caregivers, or explore the "Bite-Sized" Kid's Corner with our Promotoras (Community Health Specialists). Fresh fruits and vegetables provide vitamins and minerals while also supporting hydration amid dangerous summer heat, which can become unbearable in under-resourced heat island neighborhoods like our home communities of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea.
But the need is growing. Every day, more families are signing up to access The Mercadito. To continue meeting this spike in demand and bring critical nutrition to food-insecure children, we urgently need your partnership to reach our goal of raising $20,000 by the end of June. We have only 2 days left. Please add your support today at the link in our bio.

Fear should not be a factor in food access. But 41% of our immigrant neighbors worry about deportation and detainment when going about their daily life, up from 26% in 2023 (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2025).
The Mercadito is a trusted space for our newest neighbors to access high-quality, nutritious food, responsive to a variety of cultures and traditions.
We need $20,000 by Tuesday at midnight to sustain our Mercadito expansion for our most vulnerable neighbors, and we still have about 13% to go!!!
Please chip in today to support food and nutrition security for neighbors with significant food access barriers. Take action at the link in our bio.

The economic crisis is loud and visible. Economic reports confirm what we are all experiencing: rising costs for food, gas, housing, and childcare. Recent federal SNAP cuts of $186 billion and aggressive new work requirements are stripping food assistance from those who cannot fight back. For our most vulnerable neighbors, there is no reprieve in sight.
The GrowHaus is meeting this moment by welcoming more households to select fresh, nutrient-dense foods at our weekly Mercaditos. Today marks the 3-DAY COUNTDOWN for our push to raise expansion funds for the no-cost Mercadito! We are 75% of the way to our goal of raising $20,000 by the end of June to support this expansion, and we know we can cross the finish line with your partnership.
Please take action TODAY via the link in our bio to support food and nutrition security for neighbors trying to make ends meet in a city that was just ranked the third-most expensive place to live in the nation.
