Before Colorado became a state... Before the National Western Stock Show welcomed its first guests in 1906... Before the first flag flew in our arenas...
There was an idea.
That communities are stronger when they come together and that the future is worth investing in.
This year, we celebrate 250 years of the United States, 150 years of Colorado, and 120 years of the National Western Stock Show. While each milestone tells a different story, they share a common thread: generations of people working to build something that lasts.
For more than a century, National Western has been a place where those values come to life by connecting urban and rural communities, supporting youth, advancing agriculture, and preserving the Western way of life for generations to come.
As we honor our nation's past, we're proud to carry forward a legacy that continues to shape its future.
Happy Fourth of July National Western. 🇺🇸

Stock Show Through the Decades: 1986–1996
The decade from 1986 to 1996 marked another period of transformation for the National Western Stock Show. In 1989, the show secured $30 million dollars of the Denver bond package, where voters agreed to keep the show in Denver and grow it.
As a result, the Events Center broke ground in 1992. This would forever change the landscape of the show. Opening in 1995, the Events Center still hosts premier horse shows during the 16 days each year.
In 1986, the livestock show grew with the introduction of Junior Market Beef, Lamb, and Swine Shows, along with the Junior Auction of Champions. These programs quickly became cornerstones of the Stock Show experience and remain among our most celebrated traditions today.
By 1996, the Stock Show was welcoming more than 600,000 visitors annually and entering a new era of growth that would carry it toward its centennial celebration in 2006.

Honoring the life and legacy of Ron Williams
A former Chairman of the Board, Vice Chair of the Capital Campaign, and steadfast supporter of the National Western, Ron helped shape the future of our organization through both his leadership and generosity.
Alongside his wife, Cille, Ron's early support of the capital campaign helped lay the foundation for the transformation of the National Western Center, including the naming of the Williams Yards in recognition of their commitment to our mission.
During his time, Ron was awarded the honor of being named Citizen of the West in 2022. Ron was a gentleman cowboy in every sense of the phrase, strategic in his vision, generous with his wisdom, and unwavering in his dedication to agriculture, youth, and the Western way of life. His counsel and friendship will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we remember Ron, we're reminded of these words from Baxter Black:
"And heaven for a cowboy is just what you might expect,
It's horses that need tunin' up and heifers that need checked.
It's long rides with a purpose and a code that lights the way
And a satisfying reason to get up every day."
Thank you, Ron, for your years of service, your enduring impact, and the example you set for generations to come. Your legacy rides on.

☀️ The Colorado Heat is Here… and So Is Grilling Season! 🥩🔥
Long days, backyard cookouts, and time spent with family and friends are what Summer is all about. And nothing brings people together around the grill quite like Colorado beef.
At the Stock Show, we're proud to partner with the Colorado Beef Council to share a few simple tips for making the most of your summer cookouts:
🔥 Summer Grilling Tips
Get your beef from local ranchers for the best quality.
Choose well-marbled cuts like ribeye or 80/20 ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
Burgers should reach 160°F, while steaks hit their stride around 130–135°F for medium-rare.
Let the meat rest before serving for the juiciest bite.
Whether you're hosting a neighborhood barbecue, heading to the lake, or enjoying a quiet evening on the patio, Colorado beef is a summer staple worth celebrating.
Here's to sunshine and great beef all season long. ☀️🤠🥩

Happy Dad Day
🤠 Happy Father's Day to the dads who somehow know exactly where every tool is, can back a trailer on the first try, and haven't missed a livestock show, rodeo, or early morning barn check in years.
Thanks for teaching us how to work hard and always leave the gate the way we found it.
Today we're celebrating all the dads who helped raise the next generation of stock show kids, rodeo athletes, ag leaders, and Western heritage enthusiasts.
