🐴 Master the Quarter System in Showmanship

The goal of the Quarter System is simple: keep the judge’s view of your horse clear while remaining attentive, safe, and ready to respond.

Picture two imaginary lines dividing your horse into four quarters—one running from nose to tail and another crossing just behind the withers.

Remember:

• Judge near the front? Stand on the opposite side.
• Judge near the hindquarters? Stand on the same side.
• Move promptly and quietly when the judge crosses into a new quarter.
• Cross smoothly around the horse’s head.
• Keep the lead in the same hand and avoid disturbing your horse’s position.
• Watch both your horse and the judge without making your movements distracting.

The best way to improve is to practice with a friend acting as the judge. Focus on smooth transitions, a quiet horse, and confident body language.

Small movements. Clear positioning. A polished presentation.

Always confirm the rules of your specific breed association or show organization before competing.
