47 SHOWS. 6.5 YEARS. ONE HELL OF A RUN.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to put 6.5 years into a post, and I’m not sure you really can.
After 47 shows together, Daytona officially marked the end of Deb’s and my run together as coach and athlete.
And what a fu***ng run it was.
We chased an IFBB Pro card and earned it. We went from the amateur to professional stage. We won an IFBB Pro show and stood on the podium at Masters Worlds two years in a row, finishing 3rd both times.
There were wins, losses, incredible highs, frustrating lows, countless check-ins, early mornings and late nights.
But somewhere along the way, this became about more than bodybuilding. Deb became my mentee, business partner and, most importantly, one of my closest friends.
That’s why this isn’t a sad ending or goodbye. It’s the completion of one hell of a chapter.
After 6.5 years together, I felt there could be real value in Deb experiencing another high-level coaching perspective. That was something I actually encouraged.
Not because something needed to be fixed or because I stopped believing in what we were doing. Quite the opposite. She knows my approach inside and out. I wanted her to learn from another experienced coach, be challenged differently and see what another perspective could bring.
When she found a coach whose philosophy resonated with her, I supported the decision completely.
I’m incredibly proud that the athlete entering this next chapter is nothing like the athlete who first walked through my door 6.5 years ago.
She told me recently that I changed her life. What she probably doesn’t fully realize is how much she changed mine too.
Forty-seven shows together taught me things no certification or textbook ever could. What I learned coaching Deb has become part of the coach I am today.
I’m looking back with an unbelievable amount of pride and gratitude.
Deb, thank you for trusting me for 6.5 years and 47 shows. I’ll always be proud of what we accomplished together.
Now I get to step out of the coach’s corner, remain firmly in your corner as your friend, and watch you attack the next chapter.
Go see how far you can take it.
What a fu***ng ride.
