Wellness Wednesday — Yintang
Located midway between the eyebrows, Yintang (M-HN-3), or “Seal Hall,” is an important point in Dayan Qigong practice. Many people know it as the “third eye” area, but in Dayan theory it is also associated with the front of the Upper Dantian.
Yintang can be stimulated through acupuncture, acupressure, Qi extension, or by gently resting the attention in this area during Qigong and meditation. In Dayan practice, however, we do not try to force the Qi into the point. The attention remains light and relaxed, allowing the point to become active naturally through correct practice.
Yintang is traditionally used to calm the Shen, settle a busy mind, and support a clearer mental state. In Chinese medicine, it is also associated with stress, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, nasal congestion, and other conditions affecting the head.
I sometimes refer to it as our own natural “Xanax point”—without the side effects!
Happy Training!
