Chapter 10 – Rosie Dreams Bigger
One evening, Rosie’s class ended just as the older dancers arrived at the studio.
Rosie sat quietly near the wall while Mom gathered her things. She could have left, but the older dancers had begun to practice—and Rosie couldn’t stop watching.
They moved across the floor with perfect timing.
Their feet struck each beat together. Their posture was strong, and they seemed to know exactly where they belonged.
Rosie noticed their confidence.
They didn’t hesitate before a difficult step. They didn’t look down to check their feet. They trusted the music, their training, and one another.
Then Rosie noticed their beautiful costumes.
The pink-and-white designs shimmered against the black fabric as the dancers moved. To Rosie, they looked like the performers she had always imagined Irish dancers would be.
Miss Shelagh noticed Rosie watching.
“They’re wonderful, aren’t they?” she asked.
Rosie nodded.
“They were beginners once too,” Miss Shelagh reminded her. “They learned one step at a time—just like you.”
Rosie looked down at her own soft shoes.
She remembered the little girl who had been afraid to walk through the studio door. She remembered learning her first jig, practicing difficult steps at home, and dancing in front of thousands of people at the Dayton Celtic Festival.
Every new experience had once seemed impossible.
Until Rosie tried.
She turned back toward the older dancers and watched them finish.
Then she smiled.
“One day...” Rosie said, “I want to dance like them.”
For the first time, it didn’t feel like an impossible wish.
It felt like a dream she could work toward.
Dreams begin the moment we believe they might be possible.
