Welwitschia mirabilis B93-553 (1), our single leaf specimen, has started to lean over due to the massive weight of the fused leaves. Also, it has pushed out a peduncle again on the side of the crown which is always interesting to see!

Did you know when this species was imported into the U.S. decades ago, the only distinct genetic individuals clones were ours and UCLA?
Overtime, importing has occured more, bringing in more genetic diversity into cultivation.

This succulent species is native to South Africa. The flowers emit a foul odor, attracting carrion polliantors.
Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis.
This orchid species emits a pungent smell from its flowers to lure carrion pollinators.
Besides the main inflorescence, there are another two slowly developing to enjoy a long smelly flowering session!
Welwitschia mirabilis, B93-553 (2), is one of our female specimens that happens to be a double-crowned.
The seed was legally sourced from the Welwitschia Plains, not far from Swakopmund, Namibia, and was propagated in our greenhouse in 1993.
Seeds will be harvested in the coming weeks which will become future seedlings for our in-person sales.
