Most people come here for the dancing. They stay for the woman who saves them a spot at the barre.

For the group chat that will not stop.
For the person who noticed they were quiet on Tuesday and asked about it on Thursday.

Adults do not make new friends easily. Calendars are full, and everybody is polite, and nobody wants to be the one who suggests coffee.

Something about a room where everyone is a little bad at something together seems to fix that.

You will learn to dance here. You will also stop being lonely. We are not sure which one surprises people more.

Adults only. Seven disciplines. One very full room.

Once a year we rent a real theater. And then we hand the stage to adults who were told, somewhere along the way, that their dancing years were behind them.

That is SOAR.

Every performer in it has a job, a commute, and a reason they almost did not sign up. They rehearse on weeknights when it would be easier to go home. In October they walk out under those lights and do the thing anyway.

You do not need to know a dancer to come. You need one evening and a willingness to watch grown people be brave in front of you.

There is a particular thing that happens when grown women get in a room together and take themselves seriously.

They stop apologizing.
For the space they take up.
For how long it takes them to get something.
For wanting a thing that has no practical purpose at all, that will not make them money or make them useful to anyone.

Our room is full of women who are somebody’s mother, somebody’s boss, somebody’s caretaker, somebody’s most reliable person.

For one hour, they are nobody’s anything.
They are just dancers, and they are working on something that belongs only to them.

That hour changes the other 23. ❤️

Every part of this season asks something different of you.

The room is where you build it. Weeknight after weeknight, running eight counts until your body stops arguing, with nobody watching but us.

The camera is where you are seen. Not the group, not the formation. You. Face forward, holding still, taking up exactly as much room as you want.

The stage in October is where you hand all of it to everyone else.

Photoshoot day is the middle one, and it matters more than people expect.

For most of the year you are somebody’s mother, somebody’s boss, the person who handles everything. For one afternoon in gold, you are only a dancer, and there is a photograph to prove it.

We cannot wait to see you.

Three classes. Four hours. Twenty-one dances going on that stage October 24th.

Some of them are stepping onto a stage for the first time in their lives.

Some are stepping back onto one after thirty years away. They came to me at thirty-five, at forty, at fifty-two, and asked if it was too late.

I run adult dance classes in Dallas. Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, West African, Tap, and Hip Hop. Grown adults only.

Fifty-three seats sold. I want a hundred by the end of next week.

To everyone getting ready for that stage.

I see you.

I see you marking the choreography in the parking lot before you come in.

I see you staying ten minutes after we turn the music off, running the same eight counts until your body stops arguing.

I see you learning something at thirty, at forty, at fifty, that your body has never been asked to do before, in front of a room full of people, on a weeknight, after work.

None of that is small. It has never once been small.

Keep going. You are closer than you think, and I am watching every bit of it.

Eleven weeks from now, a group of adults who decided to go after the thing they always wanted will walk onto a real stage together.

Every one of them chose this. Not as a whim, and not once. They chose it again on the weeknights when staying home would have been easier, and they are learning full pieces they will hold from memory, under lights, in front of the people who love them.

That is what you are watching on October 24. Not a talent show. A room full of people who kept their promise to themselves.

This is what it looked like when we were red.

This year we are ✨ GOLD ✨

There is something right about it. Gold is what comes out of the fire, and every one of you has spent this season becoming something you were not in the spring. Foundation built the body. Growth stretched it. Repertoire taught you how to carry a piece. Now we photograph what all of that turned into.

The shoot is coming, and it is one of the best days of the whole season.
Get excited. We are! ❤️
