Shoutout to the St. Thomas Aquinas Fathers Teaching Sons Group for spending this past Saturday with us at Rio!
We loved having you on the mats for a BJJ class and getting to share an experience that goes beyond learning techniques.
BJJ teaches patience, discipline, confidence, resilience, and the importance of showing up for the people around you. But some of the most meaningful lessons happen when fathers and sons learn, struggle, laugh, and grow together.
There’s something special about stepping onto the mats side by side and creating memories that go beyond the class.
Thank you for choosing to spend your Saturday with the Rio family. We’re grateful to be part of your journey. 🤝🥋
Train together. Learn together. Grow together.

This past Saturday at Submission Hunter Pro, our team stepped up and represented Rio with heart, toughness, and determination.
Congratulations to everyone who competed, fought, and put it all on the line. Win or lose, you represented our team and gave it everything you had. We’re proud of each and every one of you. 👊🔥
And a huge thank you to the Rio family who came out to support our athletes. From the cheers in the crowd to everyone who showed up just to be there — your support means everything.
This is what community looks like. We train together. We compete together. We show up for each other.
Proud of our fighters. Proud of our team. Proud to be Rio. ❤️🔥
Connection. Commitment. Community. Growth. Lifestyle.
Rio is more than a place to train.
It’s the people you meet, the commitment you make to yourself, the community you become part of, and the growth that happens along the way.
We learn together. We push each other. We grow together.
Jiu-Jitsu isn’t just what we do. It becomes part of how we live.

Huge congratulations to everyone from Team Rio who stepped onto the mats at IBJJF this past weekend. 👏
Win or lose, every match is an opportunity to grow. It takes discipline, courage, and countless hours of training to test yourself at this level, and we’re proud of every athlete who represented Rio with heart and determination.
Not everyone who competed is pictured, but every single one of you played a part in making our team proud. Thank you to our coaches, teammates, and families who continue to support each athlete every step of the way.
The work doesn’t stop here—back to the mats. 🥋🔥

One of the greatest misconceptions about Jiu-Jitsu is that it’s only about learning submissions or self-defense. While those skills are valuable, they aren’t what keep people training for years. What keeps people coming back is the person they become through the process.
Every round presents a new problem. Plans fall apart. Positions change. Pressure builds. Success doesn’t come from reacting emotionally—it comes from staying calm, thinking clearly, adapting, and trusting the fundamentals. Over time, that way of thinking becomes second nature.
Then something interesting happens: you begin approaching life the same way.
Difficult conversations become problems to solve instead of arguments to win. Setbacks become opportunities to adjust instead of reasons to quit. Stress no longer controls your decisions because you’ve spent countless hours learning how to stay composed when everything feels uncertain.
The techniques stay on the mats, but the mindset follows you everywhere.
That’s why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn’t just a sport. It isn’t just fitness. It isn’t just self-defense.
It’s a way of thinking. It’s a way of growing. It’s a lifestyle.

Empowered Women Empower Women. 💙
Last weekend, the women of Rio Jiu-Jitsu came together for a special Women’s Self-Defense Seminar led by Carol More, where we learned practical skills, built confidence, and grew stronger together.
While self-defense was the focus, what made the day truly special was the community. Seeing women encourage one another, step outside their comfort zones, and leave feeling more confident is exactly what these events are all about.
A big thank you to Carol and everyone who came out, trained, and made it such a fun afternoon. Here’s to continuing to build a community where women support women, both on and off the mats.
We can’t wait for the next one! 💪🥋
