Tip of the week: Big Island Swim is coming Aug 23!
Volunteers are needed. Negative Split Racing has always been a great supporter of this event. If you are not participating and want to volunteer please contact

19th year for the NSR Summer Camp.
New for year 19 will be Friday fun. We will meet at the Lake and have a bike clinic followed by a bike TT of varying distances based on your ability. We will follow that up with a run clinic and a short brick run. We close out friday with some fun in the water that also includes a swim clinic concluding with a long swim. We usually start in the water and finish with run. We are mixing it up next year. Year 18 was a hit heading back to the hotel a little earlier and eating at The Rock. There are a few other tweaks to the agenda. Don't miss out! There are only 2 more opportunities to experience the NSR Summer Camp. Year 20 will be the last NSR Summer Camp.

Tip of the week: Ruidoso 70.3 on the books! What I learned today. Preparation for elevation paid off. I started hydration and electrolytes a week before and was in the bathroom more than I care to share. It was to the point Rachel asked if I was ok...LOL. My swim the 2 weeks before was just that, a swim. In my wetsuit, I swam nearly 7 minutes faster for about the same distance. The takeaway is form and consistent training in the water. I knew that but good confirmation. Wetsuit kept my legs up. Elevation is no joke. I also knew that going in. It hits everyone in different ways. I did not have any panic in the water but word is there were 80+ swimmers pulled from the water due to breathing type panic. Elevation did not appear to impact my bike like in Boulder. I was good from the start. I had 50 good miles and then the last climb to transition hit. HR crept up and wheels fell off. Still a good ride at 19+ mph avg. Now for the run...OMG! I had a good start but struggled to breath. This is where I felt the altitude the most. I kept my body cool wearing my arm coolers. Never felt hot due to the cooling effect of my tri kit and arm sleeves. Did not see/feel sweat but I know I was because I could taste the salt every time I poured water over me. It was a huge struggle to keep going the way I felt. What kept me going was the mere fact I was still passing people at the pace I was going. Not to mention a huge shout out to Jennifer Daniel that raced the 5150 the day before and came out to cheer me on. Help me keep my mind right. Thank you, Jennifer. I finished! Best surprise of the day was to see Rachel at the finish line with her beautiful smile! She made the trip but it was not easy. She was just resting and gaining strength for the drive home. I did not expect to see her at all on race day at the race venue. It was the best smile of the day! For those that know me expect to hear about the medical tent next. However, no medical tent visit today! It was the day the Lord made for me. I am grateful for the day and the opportunity to race. Last nugget was a 6th place AG finish. Totally unexpected with how I felt I was performing. Thank you, Lord for this day!

Tip of the week: What happens when a significant amount of training is missed. Speaking on my tune up Olympic at Tri Waco this past weekend. I missed a month in the water from April to May due to life happenings. It cost me 11 minutes in the swim from a year ago. Last year 39 minutes. For the same swim this year 50 minutes. Felt like an eternity. Came out of the water certain I was last out of the water like the start of my triathlon career. To my surprise there were plenty of swim caps still in the water upon my exit. I didn't let it rattle me. I was strong on the bike and even stronger on the run to close out at a 3rd place finish in the age group. At the end of the day I am pleased with my overall performance knowing I did the very best I could do on that day God gave me. Just happy to be able to show up and compete. For those that know me, yes I visited the medical tent for an IV bag and ice bath. I did not exhibit any warning signs during the event. Just needed to get my body cooled off in the heat. You all know I am a competitor and will put it all out there to the best of my ability. The message here is for us all to be real in the factors of performance. I could beat myself up for the poor performance however, would not change the fact Rachel and I received words she is now CANCER FREE. The kids at my school are the recipients of my hard work in the classroom. That is revealed to me through the parents' supporting words and ultimately the kids I impact every day. The track program also provides so much goodness in what the kids achieve because of my wisdom and positive impact each day. All this happened in a way that I chose to give up swim time. Would not trade it for anything right now in my life. Thankful for each new day God gives me. Thankful for how God uses me to help so many. That includes so many that will see this rare post from me. It is my purpose!
