Improved hand through the ball. Longer arc distance travelled & higher energy transfer paired with significantly better launch angle accuracy. How you go through the ball matters and is a function of many other factors. Body position, dynamic shoulder movement, swing, and release to follow-through direction.

One of the most common liabilities seen in 2-handers, as well as 1-handers too, is slide-side shoulder over rotation.

The shoulder system operates as an alpha-beta leader-follower relationship. If the back shoulder rotates down with the downswing, the front shoulder remains forward allowing the head to remain in place with the downswing moving into and under the body and the hand into and through the ball better.

If the front shoulder rotates closing the shoulders, the head is pulled inward with the downswing away, hand away & to the outside.

In the above video, on the left, the front shoulder has over-rotated. Notice how far the hand moves away from the body and how it moves through the ball.

The right side illustrates a front shoulder that has remained forward. In this example, we see how important the front shoulder and arm is in keeping the front shoulder quiet. The end result is significantly better into & through the ball.

When I work with bowlers, I help them help themselves to use their body more effectively by grounding physical motor movements in anatomy and sports science.

How you go through the ball matters a great deal to energy transfer, direction, and rev rate creation. Notice the improvement into and through the ball as well as increase in finger arc distance travelled.

The changes I help bowlers make help them improve energy transfer and enhance their release too.

This young man had significant improvement in moving through the ball & getting the ball into the lane.

The new improvement physical game achieved far less head movement & better slide foot angle as well.

You see the impact of the left shoulder movement on the head, right hand & left hip & foot angle. Notice the difference in the final slide foot position.

Overall…. Cleaner ball motion. And, now the ability to better track ball motion.

Shared 1 year ago today. Post-lesson, this 196 average bowler, in 2024-25, threw his first 700 (265-208-245) in 6 years in his 2nd set in the 2025-26 season.

“Absolutely worth every minute of training! The concepts taught were spot on and really helped me see the ball down lane. Also helped me control my speed and get a more consistent shot. Thanks again Coach!!”
