Real talk, yoga does not make you a perfect person. In the middle of a heated argument with my grown kids, my daughter insultingly said, what happened to your YOGA? Like yoga was supposed to turn me into some silent, smiling robot who never raises her voice. Here’s what I wish more people understood. Yoga is not perfection. Yoga is armor. Life is out here telling you you’re not enough. Your kids will tell you what you didn’t do. Family will forget how hard you’ve shown up. You can be busting your tail for folks and still be told you don’t care. I don’t practice yoga because my life is perfect. I practice yoga because it is not. Yoga is how I calm my mind enough not to choke somebody out when I’m pushed. It’s how I remember my dignity, my values, my self-respect before I react. It gives me just enough space to breathe, to think with my rational brain, and to choose my next move. The nervous system spa house I’m building is not about being a perfect yogi with a perfect body and a perfect life. It’s about real humans with real problems who need tools to come back to themselves. Yes, yoga can make your body strong and flexible and beautiful. But the real work is happening inside, where nobody can see it. I am not a perfect individual, I have thick thighs and I may yell a little, I am a person who uses yoga so I don’t lose myself. If you’ve ever thought you don’t deserve yoga because your life is messy, let me tell you, the mess is exactly why you belong on the mat. This Thursday, six AM, mats down, phones away, come breathe with me. 📲📲Download the app, Octavia’s Natural Experience, on Google Play and the Apple App Store, to grab your spot.
