Member Spotlight!
For the last 7 years Melanie has been a cornerstone of our program at Greenwich Jiu Jitsu. Her training began as a member of our children’s group in our first location. Her passion, discipline and focus were immediately apparent as she approached her development with a vigor, rare in most children. More often than not, Melanie would arrive at the Academy on foot after completing a half marathon before class. She flew through the children’s belt ranks while piling up experience competing and winning both in our Academy tournaments and multiple outside competitions. As her journey continued, she began developing her ability to guide and assist others as an Assistant Coach in our children’s program. At age 16 she was awarded her Adult Blue Belt, a significant achievement for any practitioner, let alone a busy high school student. Melanie continued serving our community, assisting in the Coaching of our women’s self defense course, GEMS self defense course and children’s Jiu Jitsu prep program.
When Melanie is not on the mats, she is also a EMT volunteer, a cross country runner and has a pending Guinness World Record holder for most 4 finger pull ups in one minute!! She is also the World’s #1 ice cream consumer and creator!
This summer Melanie is set to continue her journey, recently committing to NYU where she’ll study Biology, with the goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon and no doubt push her limits again to find success.
It’s been an honor to have been a part of her story and the entire GJJA community could not be more proud of Melanie or more excited to see what amazing feat she accomplishes next.
