The busiest floor in a sports medicine facility usually isn't the turf or the lifting platform. It's the walkway. Everybody crosses it, all day, and at the New York-Presbyterian Sports Performance Institute, some of them are working their way back from an injury.

That walkway is Boflex Stadium in European Oak. Boflex puts the shock absorption in the understructure instead of stacking height underneath it, so the wood sits low and clean against the turf and rolled rubber it runs beside, and stays steady under carts and foot traffic all day.

Most people know us for commercial weight rooms, gyms, and athletic sports flooring. The same floors go into houses. Rolled rubber and tile for basement gyms and garage lifting spaces, and infill free indoor turf for sled lanes, putting strips, play spaces.

Home floors have a shorter list of problems to solve, and noise is usually at the top of it. Acoustic builds put a sound and vibration reduction pad under the wear layer so lifting upstairs does not take over the room below. Same colors, same thicknesses, same install standards we spec for commercial jobs, cut to fit the room you have.

A performance floor is a real investment, and how you treat it decides how long it lasts. The good news is that most of the work is simple and routine.

Start with cleaning. Sweep the grit off daily, then damp mop or autoscrub with a neutral pH cleaner. Wipe spills as they happen, and address any damage or dings early on before they become more of a problem. Walk-Off Mats in high-traffic zones take a lot of the dirt that would normally find it's way onto the floor."

And once or twice a year, bring in a pro to inspect, deep clean, and reseal if it's a floor that calls for that.

Do that, and a floor that might fade in a few years will perform for a decade. Longer life, lower cost, safer surface.

Gold's Gym in East Northport wanted its child watch space to be as bright and welcoming as the rest of the club, so we brought the color right into the floor.

More than 3,400 square feet of the Original Thor Victory Tile in an OTVT Chip blend, installed in 2009.

The floor is the piece of safety equipment nobody talks about. Ankle sprains, ACL tears, shin splints, a lot of what sidelines athletes traces straight back to the surface under them.

Two things do most of the work. Shock absorption spreads the force from jumps, sprints, and dropped loads so it doesn't land in knees, hips, and spines. Traction keeps footing steady through quick cuts and heavy lifts, even when sweat gets involved.

Before you build or renovate, start with how the room actually moves. Tell us who trains there and what they do, and we will spec the surface that keeps them on their feet and off the injury report.

Passaic High School needed a gym floor that could keep up with a full school schedule, and that is exactly what we built. More than 10,000 square feet of Thor Performance Vinyl in a Maple finish, laid across their main gymnasium in 2017.

It carries the look of a hardwood court on a cushioned, shock-absorbing build. Heat-welded seams keep it water-resistant and easy to clean, and it is tough enough to move from basketball to PE to a packed assembly without extra floor protection.

Make it look like water. That was the brief at Tilton Fitness in Galloway, NJ, and we loved it. The answer was a custom Swirl blend of our vulcanized virgin rubber, the Original Thor Victory Tile, with the color run straight through the tile so the floor carries that water-like look across nearly 4,900 square feet of training space.

The free-weight area gave us a great second challenge to solve. Sitting above the ground floor, it needed a surface that could keep heavy lifting quiet for the rest of the club, so we built a floating subfloor system, layered it with acoustic underlayment and rubber, and delivered a room that stays calm and steady under the heaviest sets.

Two goals, one floor: a space that looks incredible and performs even better.
