The recent decisions from the United States Supreme Court will have significant implications for many. We have a moment to celebrate the affirmation that anyone born in the U.S. is an American, thanks to the Court’s interpretation of the 14th Amendment. This is crucial for protecting the rights of future Americans. However, we must also confront the unfortunate ruling that upholds the ban on transgender athletes, particularly in light of Ohio House Bill 68. The fight for equality continues, and we must remain prepared and ready for action.

Ohio officially joined the Social Work Compact in May 2024 when the Governor signed Senate Bill 90 into law. The compact commission is in the process of setting rules and regulations, but the hope is that compact licenses will be available in 8-12 months. NASW will be here to keep you informed!

The Supreme Court's ruling last week has set to end Temporary Protected Status for Syrians and Haitians, putting thousands of Ohioans in extreme risk of family separation, detention, and deportation to extremely unsafe environments. The Ohio Immigrant Alliance has resources on how we can support our immigrant neighbors, especially in Springfield, OH, where there is a large Haitian community. Check out their resources here: https://www.ohioishome.org/springfield-spotlight. We also have resources for social workers at https://www.naswoh.org/page/PracticeGuidance. Make sure you are informed of your rights and your clients' rights!
