Summer Social 2026

What a day!

Thanks to everyone who came out and made this year’s Summer Social another great one. It’s always awesome getting everyone together outside the gym to hang out, catch up, and celebrate another great summer.

A huge thank you to Mandrake Rooftop for hosting us for the third year in a row. The rooftop in the middle of the city has become one of our favorite traditions.

Congratulations to Ingrid Bedell and Joshua Martinez , our 2026 Summer Shred Champions! The hard work over the last few months definitely paid off.

One of my favorite parts of the afternoon was seeing so many new members at their first gym social. Our community keeps growing, and it’s fun watching new friendships form outside of class.

And thank you to Bridgett | Traveling Photographer for knocking it out of the park with the photos as always!

We’ll do it all again this fall at The Bar at Echo Spirits Spirits in October. Stay tuned!

You don’t have to feel motivated.

You just have to walk through the door.

We’ll take it from there.

People always ask what makes a gym different.

Is it the equipment? The building? The square footage?

Those things matter. We’ve spent years filling this place with great tools—Rogue equipment, Woodway treadmills, now new HYROX gear, platforms, racks, sleds, and more.

But if I’m being honest, theres alot of places that have all that stuff now.

There are a lot of beautiful gyms out there now. Functional fitness has won. The entire industry has borrowed ideas from CrossFit. Most gyms today have barbells, rigs, and equipment built to really train with.

And that’s awesome.

But every once in a while I’ll walk into a place that has everything... except energy.

People moving, but not really training.

Working out, but not really pursuing anything.

Everyone doing their own thing, but nobody really being part of anything.

That’s what I’ve learned after nearly two decades in this industry.

The equipment can lead people in the door.

The people are what change their lives.

A great coach.

The training partners.

A community that notices when you’re gone.

A group of people all chasing improvement together.

That’s the stuff that can’t be ordered from a catalog.

That’s the stuff that makes a gym feel alive.

While Derick has been coaching with us for a little while now, he’s recently stepped into a larger role and we’re excited to have him even more involved in the day-to-day at the gym.

Derick is a CrossFit Level 3 Trainer, an accomplished Olympic weightlifter, and the current Masters World Record holder in both the sn**ch and total. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, he brings an incredible attention to detail, technical expertise, and a passion for helping athletes improve at every level.

Currently pursuing his PhD in Exercise Science, Derick combines high-level coaching experience with an evidence-based approach to training and performance.

You’ll see Derick coaching classes, working with athletes one-on-one, and providing personalized programming throughout the gym.

We’re incredibly excited to have Derick on the team and can’t wait for our community to learn from one of the best.

Welcome to the next chapter, Derick.

Today, Coach Kali continues our private training series and talks about how one-on-one coaching can remove the uncertainty that keeps so many people from getting started. Instead of wondering if you’re doing the movements correctly or following the right program, you get a coach focused entirely on your goals, your movement patterns, and your progress.

Whether you’re looking to transition into group classes, improve technique, return from time away from training, or simply want a personalized approach, private training provides a roadmap and accountability every step of the way.

At CrossFit Grandview and Grandview Barbell, private coaching has become one of the biggest parts of our business because it works. Better movement. Faster progress. More confidence. Better long-term results.

Check out Kali’s thoughts and reach out if you’d like to learn more about our private training options.

This past weekend we had two teams take on the Syndicate Crown Semifinal in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Team CrossFit Grandview finished 22nd and Team CrossFit Grandview Black finished 31st in a world-class field loaded with some of the best teams on the planet.

Team CrossFit Grandview — Jordan Reichert, Kali Schierl, Troy Clay, and Caroline Dardini — put together an incredible year of training. Jordan and Kali continue to find their stride as competitors, gaining experience and confidence every season. Troy is still climbing the ladder and has been an awesome addition to our community this year. And Caroline? She’s basically superwoman. More than a decade into her competitive career, we keep talking her out of retirement so she can come play with us and qualify for huge events like this.

Team CrossFit Grandview Black — Drake Stephens, Heather Paye, Chris Paye, and Rachel Escolas — represented everything we love about affiliate-based competition. Two parents. Three masters athletes. Going head-to-head with professional athletes from around the world. Watching a mom handstand walk up the ramp and a soon-to-be father of two grind through fatigued 315-pound squat cleans is what makes this sport special. Heather and Chris continue to get stronger, fitter, and more competitive every single year, which is incredible to witness.

What makes me most proud isn’t where we placed.

It’s how we do it.

When the rules changed, we didn’t. We stayed committed to the same system we’ve believed in for years. Our Level 2 athletes train in classes. They develop alongside the community. They coach here. They work here. They’re members here. They’re not flown in from somewhere else. They’re part of the fabric of this gym.

It feels right.

Old-school affiliate CrossFit.

Still getting it done in 2026.
